Yeah, I was just about to say that! Looked like a footballer trying to win a penalty...

Great story though and a lovely watch.

A months salary for a serviceman in 1971.

If the human race continues for another billion years or more I doubt there will be another generation accumulates as much unearned and accidental wealth as the boomers.

No-one wanted them back then, they were the most unloved Rolex. Sat around for years. Now it's all gone nuts!

Just in case anyone missed it, there’s the actual clip and interview from the show after the comedy collapse gif. In the OPs link.

Where's the jealousy?

Just a statement of fact which anyone with any common sense couldn't possibly dispute.

It's not a fact though is it. It's your opinion. And stating that anyone who disagrees with you lacks common sense make you sound like a berk.

Lucky how it's turned out - it'd be a bit gutting to find out after keeping it for ~50 years that you chose the wrong one

Absolutely, just blind luck! They sat around Jewellers windows for years and then for some reason people went wild for them. I can't see any of the modern ceramic ones doing this except perhaps the 116600 SeaDweller - maybe.
