I assume that piece has been picked up by a serious collector rather than someone wanting to flex on Instagram which seems to be where the current market seems to suffer.

It is crazy money but I guess it's like old Ferrari's, rarity will play a part as there was only 300 made and I'd guess not many survived due to their intended function.

I think this comes under the speculation category

Was this an early James Bond watch? maybe a speculative price with the new film out. I know people are trying to put a Bond collection together.

I think JP1982 above has hit the nail on the head.
Very early, serious tool watch, produced in very limited numbers to be abused manages to survive a lifetime of being abused, has amazing patina (radium exposure dial, anyone? smile ) and will neatly slot into almost any collection. Its going to attract a good range of buyers, and obviously has. I don't expect it to be on an Instatt's wrist any time soon.
