After a couple of wears I tend to find my watches end up a bit grubby from dead skin and body oil and its a PITA as the dirt collects in the hard to wipe clean crevasses.

Do you take your straps off periodically to wipe clean or am I over thinking this ?

Many thanks .... all tips welcome

Straps/bracelets go in an ultrasonic bath. Watches get the toothbrush treatment as necessary.

Wearing my watch 24/7 causes the worst build up …when showering /bath doesn’t clean the watch but catches more dirt …..

People do put complete watch heads in but I don’t think it’s generally recommended.

There are amateurs who use ultra sonics to clean movements and all sorts.

Many watchmakers use ultrasonic cleaner for stripped down movement cleaning I'm one myself

Toothbrush and soapy water.

Ultrasonic bath is useful for getting the dirt from between the links and stuff.

When I'm in a hot and sweaty country, like SE Asia, the watch will be worn into the shower with me. When I lather up, I take off the watch and lather it too. This has worked fine for me.

In UK whwre it's not so hot, I'll just get the fairy liquid out and clean it. Cause I do it regularly, the watches never reall have the chance to build up the dirt. I won't wear a watch for more than a few days without a fairy clean.

With watches that can't get wet (eg, leather strap) I'll take a wet microfiber cloth and give it a good wipe down, strap as well.
