Twice in the past week there has been what appears to be a passenger jet flanked by two Tornados flying very low over Fife, heading north. First saw it one evening last week and then again earlier this evening.

Not a plane spotter by any means, but the passenger was one of those twin engine jobs... engines mounted right at the rear with a rear wings mounted at the top of the tail (vague, but hey!)

Any ideas?

Sure it wasn't 4 engines at the rear, like a VC-10. In which case it would be an RAF plane, possible K2 refueller and the planes alongside it were going to be refuelled?

That would make more sense! Never really got a good look, first time there was low cloud cover and this evening it was getting dark and I was halfway through a reverse park...

Did seem remarkably low however, especially given it's flight path would have brought it pretty much right over Edinburgh airport or at the very least, approaches... plus, seems weird that they would be refuelling so near to Leuchars unless it was perhaps a training op?

RAF flypast as part of Edinburgh Military Tattoo since the RAF are the lead service this year. Every night at 9:00pm (7:30pm on Saturdays). So far we've had solo Tornadoes, Nimrods, as well as the VC-10 and pair of Tornadoes last Friday and tonight.
