I bought an Instant Pot in the Prime sale and I'm finally getting around to using it.

I've googled easy recipes but it's mostly hockey moms with strange concoctions that I don't have the ingredients for (plus yoghurts and other weird stuff). I also don't get the instructions: sounds like they are for ever opening it or doing loads of pre cooking (Saute?). I thought the idea was you bung a load of stuff in and it comes out sorted x hours later!

Just to get the hang of the controls I followed instructions for hard boiled eggs (!) today which actually turned out fine but took 15 mins all in. Given it takes only around 5 mins using a saucepan that's defeating the object isn't it.

Anyway, has anyone who has one got any idiot proof delicious meals I could try. And what do I need to buy to stick in the cupboard that will come in handy for using it?

I'm thinking standard meaty stuff like casserole, chilli etc. Also do you use it for standard veggies on their own (carrots, broccoli etc)?

All ideas for a beginner welcome (but I am pretty useless). Ta.

Yes, the box calls it a programmable pressure cooker. ( I have never used one at all before)

The blurb calls it a 7-in-1 electric pressure cooker:

http://www.instantpot.co.uk/product/instant-pot-ip...

Pressure Cooker, Slow Cooker, Rice Cooker, Sauté/Browning, Yogurt Maker, Steamer & Warmer

I think that's part of my problem understanding how best to use it. Old days bung meat in oven, steam veg over a pan.

Now I have one device to do the lot somehow but not sure how.

Recipes talk about "browning" the meat first, is that in the pot or in a separate frying pan? Different ingredients have different cooking times so need to be put in at different times. But I can't keep opening a pressure cooker can I? Or is that only in Saute (non-pressure?) mode?

Confused.com

Thanks for the slow cooker recipe link. Some of those look doable for me although I'll have to stock up on stuff like garlic paste, stock (that just means OXO cubes?) and various herbs. Oh and learn how to make gravy from the juices.

I'm determined to perfect at least 4 or 5 good proper meals with this so it doesn't end up in the cupboard.

Gammon first go I think.

The wife does a very good pulled pork in ours. Just look for any pressure cooker/slow cooker pulled pork recipe that takes your fancy, and go from there.

If you're a Amazon prime member, you can read this book for free....

American recipes, but some of the blurb is worth a read.

Fair comment. I tend to avoid using "my wife" because she's not a possession, but there's probably a better option.

I've had my Instant Pot for a couple of years now and love it.
It's used several times a week mainly for batch-cooking beans, rice and taters. Also excellent for making quick, flavoursome stocks and soups.
I'm not much of a recipe follower, more a seat-of-the-pants throw-it-together kinda guy so can't really help with specific recipes. Found Vegan Under Pressure by Jill Nussinow helpful for timings and ideas though.

Bit of a thread resurrection. I got one for xmas with the attached air fryer. I wanted a pressure cooker initially but thought this could get rid of a few things at once.

Anyone got any tips or recipes?

Was thinking about pressure cooking half the xmas gammon this year then sous vide the other.
