You know the drill, colder evenings, fire on, film on, had enough of wine and you delve into the drinks cabinet and are met with the wife's Aperol, gin, bacardi and sigh.

I'm not really a spirit man, by this I mean whisky, brandy, malts, then again maybe I've not tried 'the one', but fancy something that will sit easy, warming but not sickly sweet or blow my throat apart at the same time.

What do you guys recommend to have over some ice to settle in for the night.

Of course this will need some homework down the pub before committing to a whole bottle.

LBV port
or Pedro Ximenez sherry.
The sherry is a dark reasonably sweet one but tastes of raisins and rich fruit cake which I like.

I do like a whisky every now and then. Not heavily peated though. Usually a speyside or highland whisky. Current favourite distilery is Scapa for its smoothness and balance of flavour.

If the wine is done and as you say just a snifter , my go to is Jack Daniels Honey over ice . Just the one

I recently discovered something that sounds like what you're after. Keo Three Star, can't be called a brandy, but a 'brandy' it is. At only 30% proof it's light and easily drinkable, too easy. I have it neat, no ice.

Yup , Bushmills Lafroig , not a big spirit drinker unless it's Xmas we only have it in the house for adding to sauces/cooking , JDH works wonders with BBQs .

A cognac can be pleasant.

A bourbon mixed with some ginger ale perhaps.

Perfect time of year for something like a slow gin or blackberry whisky, I make my own but the bought stuff is nice and lots of variations.

Have you tried 'white lightening' op ? It seems very reasonably priced.

I'm surprised this has descended into suggestions of tramp's piss, firstly so quickly and secondly without my input.

Embrace the 70’s - Baileys over ice. Slightly warming, alcoholic but not very alcoholic, and a bit like an after dinner chocolate in drink form.

Well if we are hitting the Baileys, how about a 2:1 mix of Baileys and Cointreau (more Baileys than Cointreau) - very yummy!!
