Home working has brought some unexpected changes.

Due to work calls, I can no longer stand by the toaster waiting to pounce as soon as it pops.

I've now come to the conclusion it's better to wait 5 minutes or so to let the toast cool before applying butter and my topping of choice.

The butter is easier to spread and the toast is more crunchy.

Obviously, this doesn't apply to crumpets and teacakes. I'm not silly.

Can you tell I'm not too busy today?

I have to be throwing butter at it as it's in mid air the instant the toaster pops.

It is nice 10 mins after toasting once it's cooled, but aint nobody got time for that.

Buttering the toast when it is still "hot" ends up with soggy toast .. so it's "cold" for me.

Cold toast?
Get in the sea.

If you're making toast under your open gas grill, as one should, then buttering the first side toasted won't instantly liquify the butter.

Grill? You should be using the simmering plate on the AGA, then of fking course buttering it while it’s still hot. Cold toast? WTF.

I quite like cold white buttered toast that has been sat around for a while - has a nice chewyness.

You know the woman who does the M&S advert voiceovers? Close your eyes and imagine her lascivious, sultry voice saying "cold buttered toast".

Wrong, see?!?

Perfect cheese on toast requires an open gas grill. smile

Anyway, cold, chewy toast?
Have I woken up in an alternative reality?
Maybe I haven't woken up yet. That's it, it's just a nightmare that will go away soon.

Why not spend your time more wisely eating some better quality toast?
I'm not really understanding why you can't eat hot toast whilst WFH, in theory your diet should get better now, not worse.

Nothing more depressing than cold toast.

The worst is when you go to a hotel and they have a basket of pre toasted bread thats been sat out since breakfast started with no way to warm it up.

I put bread in toaster, get a call and have to answer. Go back to toaster and toast is cold.

Just turn the toaster back on for 30 seconds to warm the toast back up and press the cancel button to stop it toasting any more.

Never occurred to me that eating cold toast was even a thing! Sounds gross. Reminds me of school.

One of my happiest memories of my mum was her coming home from work with the cold buttered toast she took for lunch uneaten. When I was recently in hospital (COVID) the toast was always served cold w horse piddle tea. Still, I prefer it buttered hot.

I like it hot or cold. Hot with loads of butter so it leaks through onto the plate. Leave it to go cold in the toaster and it seems to crisp up more. Then it's no butter and either Marmite or Rose's Lemon & Lime marmalade! lick

Top tip.

Try putting the butter on with the back of a tablespoon, much quicker, and you can get right into the corners.

Try it.

Leave the phone for 2 mins and have your toast, the photo copier sales can wait.

Soft and chewy but still warm is the impossible dream.
