Big fan of the dirty takeaway thread.

Noticed alot of recent posts about chicken wings, I get the concept in terms of all the delicious flavours, toppings the different cooking methods etc

Is it just me though or are they not worth the faff ? They are tiny, you have to mess around removing the bones, the topping ends up all over your face etc

All over your face?

Have you considered videoing yourself eating and getting some feedback on your technique?

I like chicken wings, but unless they're dry you do have to choose whether to end up with sticky fingers or a sticky face. The most civilised approach is to dismantle them with your fingers and then wash your hands when you're done. Trying to keep your hands clean and knawing away is what leads to you ending up wearing most of the sauce.

Not just you - I could never see the point. It’s probably the messiest, least flavoursome, fiddliest bit of the chicken, and just seems to be a (poor) vehicle for the sauce.

I’d rather just eat the sauce with a spoon.

Love chicken wings.

For me it is part of my US routine when travelling.

Decent wings, celery, carrot and buffalo sauce on a plastic tray in a US diner / airport is one of life’s most pleasant experiences for me smile

Not quite the same in the UK - particularly if you get them delivered as part of a takeaway- often a soggy mess and a poor imitation of the real thing…..

In isolation they are largely a waste of time IMO too. Probably cheap though and given the amount of fat on them high in taste.
I always pull them off the side of an already roast chicken as a tasty non filling snack.

Not just you guys either.

I don't mind tucking into drumsticks but really can't be bothered with wings.

Going to add, just don't like Buffalo sauce, find it to vinegary, just can't understand why there is so much love for it.

Can't beat Buffalo wings with blue cheese dip if it's done well. Fatty or tiny wings are a disappointment.

Crispy wings coated with a dry rub before grilling , served not coated with a dipping sauce . No mess

It's not just you, I don't see the point in them either, and I've been dragged, protesting, into many "excellent" wing places when in the states, so i'm sure I've had good ones.

Give me a chicken satay on a stick any day.

Got to be a decent size, small wings are a faff for little reward

Nice enough as a sauce covered starter.

Big fan of the wings served in Brewdog at Waterloo. The wings are crispy even though drenched in hot sauce and they actually have some meat on them.
Delicious.

If you like the idea of wings but find them too fidly, get some turkey wings, they have loads of meat. I did some jerk winks in the summer and my mares loved them

When they're well cooked you can just about put the whole thing in your mouth and just pull out the two bones.

Poor ones have too much gristle.

I've always wondered about the gristle when I've watched videos of them pulling out just the bone. (Oo er).

Weatherspoons chicken wings are brilliant. And cheap.
