Thinking of getting a deep fat fryer, I love my air fryer but some things just have to be deep fat fried… my big concern is disposing of used oil.. I know what not to do with it and environmentally friendly ways of disposing of it but wondered what others do… Anyone?
Cheers,
Richard.

You can take it to your local tip and pour it in with the old engine oil. Theres usually a black drum in the corner somewhere with a funnel.

Just keep the container you bought the oil in to transport it to the tip.

Remember to only put it back in the bottle when the oil is cold.

You can get some powder that solidifies it and then it goes in the food waste bin.

I pour it into an empty large plastic milk bottle and put it in my wheelie bin.

How many times can the same oil be used before it turns bad and needs replacing?

Every time it is heated to near the smoke point, the point at which it becomes a trans-fat reduces. I used to use oil in an old L-Series Rover years ago, but only from one source. The southern fried chicken was done in a pressure fryer and the oil after a week was like pisswater as it was superheated under pressure many times. Many chip shops change it once a week, often sooner. All how much you use it.

I'm in the boonies.

I don't fry a lot, but after, say, 5 uses, I dig a hole in the garden and bury it,.

I use similar.

Depending on what I'm using the oil for, I might use it say three times. I'm not a frequent fryer so time is a factor too. If you're frying fish you might not want to use the oil again for something else!

When the basket just sits on the top of the oil, it's time to replace it laugh

Depends on what you are cooking and at what temperature but a healthy mix of chips, bahjees and fried chicken... maybe 8 times before it looks dodgy. Drain and filter it and you might another couple of fries. if you are just doing chips then at least 20, more if you drain and filter the oil regularly.

Much comes down to making sure what you are frying doesn't contaminate the oil (like flour on chicken).
