Liverpool restaurants/eateries
Discussion
Hello folks,
Im staying at the Municipal on Dale street and want to walk everywhere. Taking the girlfriend for a really quick break.
I’m looking for a an intimate restaurant for an early evening meal. Ideally somewhere without a clock on the table. It’s a Thursday if that helps.
Secondly a great spot on the Friday for a bit of people watching and a grazing lunch. Haven’t been to the docklands for years so any tips really appreciated.
Thanks folks

I've used to work in Liverpool until the pandemic, there wasn't much fine dining back then and Albert Dock was mainly chain restaurants so I wouldn't be looking there for your requirements.
360 Sky bar was good, great views across Liverpool if you get a window seat and the food was pretty good. I see they've opened an Ivy in Liverpool now so that may be a good shout. Duke Street food and drink market is pretty good, street food indoors so you can order from multiple vendors (they're all owned by the place just selling different dishes) and brought to your table, good for people watching I guess and close to lots of bars etc.

Had dinner here 4 weeks ago - it was nice but seemed very expensive for what it was

Manifest, Nord, Vetch, Art School, Queen s (and 8 by Andrew Sheridan, but no experience) for dinner.
Lots and lots more choices nowadays for decent-enough casual spots - in the Dock, probably Maray.
Any of the above would be a great choice for intimate dinner but you’ll need to be on the ball for “8” , it gets booked up quickly and keep in mind you sit at the 2 cooking stations - bars on stools with another 6 people and watch the chef cook and serve your dishes with an explanation of each , it is very good and an experience. Maray is good for grazing , just keep ordering as you want it , I’m carnivore through and through but always end up choosing the veggie options in there as they are really good , especially the disco cauliflower.

You've got Ivy Asia if you want an upper end chain. Or if you like Japanese there's Etsu, which seems to be universally well liked. Or if you want relaxed and casual there's Duke Street Market (though I prefer the altogether livelier Baltic Market for shared-table, multi-vendor eating).
If you want Michelin starred then take a taxi out to Aughton (next to Ormskirk - 30 minutes) where you have Moor Hall (3 Michelin stars), the Barn at Moor Hall (one star) and So-Lo (one star).
Liverpool is a city of contrasts - parts are incredibly poor - but it's re-developing itself at an amazing rate. And it's universally acknowledged as a cracking place for a night out. Enjoy!
We go to Liverpool to see my daughter every few months and usually take her out for food. I have tried a few places mentioned so far:
We had a pretty disappointing experience at Panoramic - views were great but food was poor.
Had very good Sunday lunch at Mooor Hall Barn this week, but it is definitely not walkable! This is the best eating and venue I have found in/ around Liverpool so far by some margin
The Ivy is one of the better ones I have been to and would recommend.
Hawksmoor was competent but felt a bit overpriced
Hope you find something nice

You didn t order enough , or you burnt off all the calories you are lifting that golf bag in and out of Bentley back seat ! I saw you outside the pie shop !
Haha! There's a story behind that, I was in the barbers, not the pie shop, a friend dropped my clubs off with me and left them sitting there like that making me look like a knob...Sorry, back on topic!

The same chef has another place in Chester, and it's ok, but christ it's overpriced for what it is. Went about 2 or 3 years ago now and we wont be going back.https://wreck-bistro.co.uk/
I did find it amusing how the owner/chef describes his restaurants as "bistros".

It closed a while ago , at least he’s a man of his word , the food was ok , service could be so so but it did seem expensive compared to the other finer dining restaurant in town .
Strangely most thought the other place was more expensive.

There used to be a branch in heswall where I live the burnt truffle it was called , if I remember correctly , the owner was very vocal on social media about lack of people through the door and threats of closing it if people didn t make the effort to use it .

I liked Burnt Truffle, he did try his best to get people to go with the threat of closing, it didn't work! It was definitely expensive for what it was though. That whole block, including the now closed Stones, (shame, she was lovely, and did a good breakfast!) has been bought by Sandstone Dental.
Was with some friends at the weekend who dined at 8 by Andrew Sheridan, they mentioned that you could only buy wine by the bottle and the cheapest bottle was £100, it was for a 70th birthday so they paid begrudgingly but wrote a formal complaint and received some kind of voucher but wouldn't go back.
