Anywhere good? Was chatting to a French lady at Euston earlier lamenting the lack of somewhere like Brasserie L'Europeen just outside Gare de Lyon..

I went to a restaurant and had this as a starter, it was at all done at half price too, including drinks.

Booked through toptable as an after theatre meal.

I had not had it before so used the opportunity to taste it, as a half priced starter. I was not keen.

I also had chocolate soup for dessert, which was equally disappointing. The other food eaten was delicious. Maybe it was the best Steak Tartar in the world, I would not know.

A big bonus was the half price drink, it made a massive difference to the bill.

I shall post again with the restaurant name.

The french onion soup was superb, the calfs liver was very good.

Had it at The Hawksmoor a couple of weeks back.

Very good indeed - one of the better ones I've had.

Will be back for more next time I'm in London...

Le Bouchon (Breton or Bordelaise, Spittalfields or Clapham). And excellent steaks too ;-)

The one thing I can't bring myself to eat. It's the raw egg rather than the meat. hurl

or make your own, that way you can control everything. you don't need fillet either, a section of rump from a good butcher (ginger pig, hg walter, o'shea, northfield farm) is sufficient

Waitrose in Canary Wharf might do it. Had some lovely lunchtime meals at their Steak and Oyster bar.

Why not ask for it without egg? I have it that way - with plenty of seasoning.

Le Caprice, 34, Bar Boulud all pretty decent but the best one i've ever had in London was at The Fountain restaurant at Fortnum and Mason. And the Welsh raerbit there is also pretty amazing.

Forgotten about this thread. Arabic cooking tends to burn the steak and then burn it again just to make sure. The meat is usually good, but unless you find a good place that cooks it like you ask, its frequently ruined..
