Hmm, I naively thought these would be good for a bit of surreptitious weekend snacking. Nice attractive looking baked goodness with big chunks of crystalline salt glistening in every one.

And yet I find that if you were some kind of sadistic food scientist out to invent a double whammy snack that simultaneously sucked all the moisture out of your mouth & raised your blood pressure beyond survivable levels, the Pretzel is what you'd come up with.

I've had dentist's suction pipes that don't dry your mouth out anywhere near as efficiently as a couple of pretzels.

Never again. From now on I'm sticking to pork scratchings served in a bowl of salt. hehe

You're obviously eating them wrongly... They HAVE to be washed down with copious amounts of beer to be experienced correctly! wink

He's right - served free in bars covered with salt to make you drink more.

Works well!

Pretzels as in the big, soft doughy real thing or pretzels as in the crunchy little things we get here?

Most people have probably never tried the large soft doughy ones you get from good German bakeries and are talking about the hard little things from America.

It hadn't occurred to me that there might be different kinds of pretzels, I've only ever tried the small, hard ones from packets, but after reading this thread I've looked on Wikipedia and read up on them.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pretzel

I'm definitely going to try some of the nice ones...

I only just found out that the big soft ones are different to the nasty little salty things I've tried before.

I now see why they are so popular! Very nice indeed !

I may have acted in...haste.

However, I am talking about the little bullets in a bag from Tesco. Hmm, maybe I'll wind up the local squirrels with them. Get my own back for the state of my fking flower beds.

Interesting - I've walked past it so many times and not gone in because of the stupid name!

Eating pretzels from a street vendor was one of my 'must do' experiences in New York. I spat it out -vile desiccating stuff

I never saw the point of pretzels myself, either.

Until my local pub started selling these beauties:

They are dynamite cloud9
