wife always does, have no idea why...cooking is done near the sink, and I rarely venture there.

I've done it once. Works well, gotta be full fat coke for the sugar content I think.

Think I prefer doing it in cider though.

Done it today for the first time. Have finished cooking the glazed joint in the oven and it is now cooling, smells good.

Unnessecarily sweet and ruins a nice ham IMO. Nothing wrong with cooking in water.

Stop posting that picture, you torturing fker. lick

Never done it myself, but the obvious conclusion is the ying & yang of sweet & salty. When Imake pizza sauce, I always add sugar & salt & it works very well.

Fair point , but cooking anything in water will dilute flavor rather than enhance . Enjoy the hams done in Guiness (anything done in Guiness) but the family are heathens so I use coke , ginger ale , root beer or if I can sneak it in BEER .
Tend to use a lot of red wine in cooking , current favorite is Elk steak on a skewer ,marinaded overnight then on the bbq .

It's good, but last year tried Nigella's suggestion and cooked it in ginger ale. Lovely.

It's good with coke, but a few years ago i switched the sweet beverage for Morlands Speckled Hen ale.
2.5-3Kg of meat to 3 litres of beer works well, simmer it slowly for about 3 hours.

After ham is cooked, reduce the cooking stock to about 250 ml, allow ham to cool, then mix maple syrup and the remaining stock , reduce further and use that to baste ham in for last 20-25 minutes in very hot oven.

Here are my instructions from last year- http://thefoodofslyrenard.blogspot.co.uk/2012/12/r...
