Is this a weird fetish of mine, paper cups?

Cold drinks taste better to me out of a paper cup than glass. I now buy paper cups just for use in the house.

Is this wasteful / criminal or do I have a point?

Yeah it’s a bit weird.

Glass is a great inert material for use as a drinking vessel. No flavour or odour transfer when drinking.

Paper cups generally smell of the paper, printing ink and plastic coating used in the manufacturing process. They always have a subtle solvent whiff about them.

I once made the mistake of downing a paper cup full of water that had been sitting for too long whilst I was in a meeting.
It was like wallpaper paste with all the glue etc leeching out of the cup.

No, you're just wrong.

Structural rigidity is compromised in comparison with glass.

Paper, print and glue can leach.

Thermal properties, paper not very good a keeping drinks cool.

Aesthetics, never looked at a paper cup and thought …

The only choice IMO for cold drinks is glass.

Is it perhaps an emotional connection?

I dislike milk in coffee and egg sandwiches, except for picnics when they are essential; because this has an emotional connection to my childhood.

I enjoy coffee more when it's from a paper cup than from a ceramic mug, hence why I usually buy coffee to take out if I get one when I'm out somewhere. I'm probably weird too.

I suspect you are subconsciously associating this with some particular cold drink you have really enjoyed. I have a few similar things - red Nescafe cup for coffee, a particular spoon for ice cream and restaurants in France with those red and white checkered table cloths.

I used to think that, but I think it’s more to do with them usually being fresher as you’re eating them at the chippy rather than travelling home.

Our local chippy (just won Uk best fish & chips), has an eat out and restaurant. The eat in experience and taste is definitely better.
