According to YouGov; 38% of people think it Is it ok to sing along and 'join in' at the cinema during a musical.

If people can sing along and 'join in' clapping at the same time to 'I want to be in America' from the musical West Side Story, then I think we should welcome the idea.

If not, then no.

Thoughts?

By all means run specific shows / screenings where the vapid screeching hordes can “sing” along but personally I’d avoid such a session.

However The Rock is on the side of the singalong. And if you smell what The Rock is cooking…

People singing along at gigs.

I’ve just paid a fking ton of money to see the band sing, not listen to some idiot in the audience murdering the song.

Simple Minds, Pearl Jam...lead singer drowned out by the crowd. Pearl Jam was sodding expensive as well.

Slightly off topic, but talking of West Side Story reminded me of this.

What a roast!

We went to see Peter Kay a few weeks ago. The 4 people behind us laughed at a ridiculous volume to literally every word he said, often repeating the words back to each other then screaming with laughter again. I sound like a complete weirdo, but it totally spoilt the show for us, we often couldn't hear what he was saying as they were constantly laughing sooo loudly. The further irritant was they were laughing at things that weren't even funny, just him talking It was like they wanted everyone in a 100m radius of them to know that they got his jokes. The people next to us left, no idea if they went to other seats or walked out. We've been to hundreds of comedy gigs without issue. I desperately wanted to say something and would normally (cinema etc), but asking a group of people not to laugh at a comedian definitely sounds a bit odd.

I went to see the musical Grease earlier this year.
At the beginning they asked people not to sing along during the main performance but had,at the end, a medley of the shows hits which you were allowed, even encouraged to sing along with.
A good compromise I thought.

That does sound like a good compromise.

It certainly won't be tolerated in Manchester.
