Anyone else come across this? As I watch rallying videos and a fair amount of music on youtube the algorithm did some hard crunching and filtered some "Rally House" videos my way.

Loosely speaking it seems to be a very niche sub-genre that has sprouted over the last few years with a blend of deep house, some garage and lo-fi, inspired by the music often found in classic racing games of the 90's and early 00's. The sound is often deliberately bit-crushed and produced within the constraints that would of been found in gaming media around that time.

The aesthetic is usually presented with the back drop of gaming, rallying and driving footage from decades gone by.

Kind of interesting concept and the music itself seems fine enough and pretty chill for the most part with some quirks. Being car and music related I thought quite relevant to this forum.

Anyway some examples.

Hmmmm. A quick listen and I am struggling to see the link between rally driving and the music. A but like being in a '90s theme pub where there was music and the TVs were playing unrelated videos.

But I am intrigued enough to have downloaded some for use at the gym shortly.

Yeh, without the specific tag of Rally House I don't think I would necessarily be able to tell it apart from other deep house etc.. As far as I can tell the music style is more in homage to game music from the late '90's early 00's and the actual rally footage is more of a tie in.

So far I have only dipped into it but will download a couple of mixes for when I do battle on the Wangan Line, or on the way to work.

ETA: Having given it a bit ore of a listen I think they could afford to lean more into he game music vibe to differentiate it a bit

OK so I listened to some of this in the gym.

Nothing about the music had me visualising rallying. The occasional PA of a race intro did nothing to drag me away from the 90s parties where I or friends were mixing similar stuff.

So, not convinced. But still quite door as a training sound track.
