R.I.P. Chris.

I think he was really into his cars. I have vague memories of him financing a film about Ferrari, and getting a replica sharknose built?

My favourite Christmas song is driving home for Christmas. When I used to celebrate abroad i used to play while on my long drive to the airport during the most unsociable hours. Rip

I was brought up with my Dad's albums by Chris Rea and similar guitarists on repeat.

As a young (and stupid) kid sitting in the back seat of a car with speakers on the parcel shelf, I remember briefly thinking the engine note on 'Daytona' (presumably a genuine Ferrari engine note) was behind us on the motorway once.

Sounds like a life well lived - indulging his music and petrolhead passion.

Noooo! Chris Rea was, by all accounts, one of the nicest people in the music business, a genuine down-to-earth smoggie made good. FWIW 'Stainsby Girl' was my favourite of his tracks, and it had a TVR in the video.

Apparently he was taking 30+ pills and seven insulin injections a day since his op for pancreatic cancer!

Very sad news. Seemed to be a real car guy, and I liked his music - in fact one of very few musical artists who both my late dad and I appreciated. Road To Hell was actually the first CD I owned

RIP Chris - hope there’s a racetrack and a 250GTO up there for you

He was a true petrol head - with a real passion for Ferraris and the Lotus /Caterham 7.

The Ferrari 156 replica he had built was for a film project he funded back in 1995 called "La Passione" which was based on his boyhood hero worship of the Ferrari driver, Wolfgang Von Trips.

Surviving 40 years after a pancreatic cancer op is extraordinary.
