So, the trusty MP4 Player I usually take on a plane has failed, can anyone recommend a music download site where I can buy music per track or album without a subscription?
This will be for a Galaxy Tablet.
Thanks.

Does the tablet not support Spotify, although it pains an old pirate like me, it really is easier.

Failing that, shove the Amazon music app on it and download it to there?

If all else really fails, I suspect archive.org might be the answer?

Buy from Amazon. No need for their app. if you're downloading. Get's a bit spendy if you need a lot IIRC.
If you're starting from scratch (no backup) and have the time then 2nd hand CDs and rip your own. Also then have control over codec & bitrate.

Aren’t both Spotify and Amazon subscriptions (to download you have to have a subscription) which the OP says he doesn’t want?

Hi, ideally I want to download music and listen offline, I have so many subscriptions, I want to avoid another.
If I have to subscribe what are your thoughts on Spotify, YouTube music etc. ?
Can you download and keep offline, all seems a bit vague
Thanks

Wife and I have a joint Spotify premium. Lossless streaming and able to download anything to listen offline. I do this to have music on holiday without using data.
There are also all the Podcasts and audiobooks.

I have Spotify premium which is £12.99 a month. Whatever your thoughts on the company itself, you can't deny it's convenient. You can add any albums you want (as long as they are on the platform) and download them to your phone, laptop etc. for offline use. I have my playlists permanently set to download so I don't worry about being online.

If you really don't want a subscription, I used this site before https://uk.7digital.com/. You just buy albums directly from the site. I had an app on my phone but can't seem to find it on the Apple store anymore. I think you could store what you bought offline. In all honesty, depending on how much music you want, it'll be cheaper to just use Spotify.

Another option is to use Plex server if you have a computer. I have the app on my phone and as long as your computer is on, you can use the app on your phone to play your music. Unfortunately, you do need to pay a small subscription if you want to download offline though. This does rely on you having your own music collection though. I have a huge CD collection which I've ripped but may not work for you.

Do you have the mp3s of the music that was on your mp4 player? It should be possible to play mp3s on your tablet without having to download them again.

I use Bandcamp.com No subscription, download in any format, and as today is BandCamp Friday, all monies go to the artist, not the platform. The app's pretty good too.

Yes I still have them, thanks all for the info.
Bandcamp or Spotify.
I will check them both out.
Cheers!

If one of your existing subscriptions is Amazon Prime you can download some music but I believe it's limited.

I went with Spotify (Duo so my wife and I have separate accounts) and find it pretty good. Catalogue is huge and you can download tracks/albums/playlists to listen to offline, bit of course you're only renting it so will lose any downloads when you leave.

In the PH tradition of suggestion something completely different from what you asked for, if its just something to listen to on the plane, a huge number of podcasts are free to access on a variety of apps (I use PodPlayer on an android phone). I tend to listen to BBC science or comedy podcasts (Life Scientific, Uncharted, Infinite Monkey Cage, Friday Night Comedy, Unbelievable Truth, etc) when travelling.

Ah, if I'm paying I want to keep it. Will google Bandcamp
Thank you Rizzo

Back in the day my MO was to download songs from YouTube onto my laptop using various websites/browser extensions, then copy the files to my phone or whatever I was listening from. Haven't bothered doing this in recent years. 95% of the songs I want are available free on YT anyway

Good luck finding artists you want to listen to on Bandcamp! I must be getting old but have never heard of 99% of them!!

Indeed, just looked and no Eagles, Elvis or Clapton. Physical media it is then. There's a gap in the market for this I reckon.
