Very new member, so not sure if there are many of us insane people who try to make a living from dots on staves on here.

I write for TV, film and games, and sometimes concert works (choral).

I don't make a living, but I supplement my regular income through gigging.

There's a couple of full timers on here though.

Not a pro muso by any stretch of the imagination, and don't gig as I discovered many years ago that stagefright is very real frown

However, since 2018 I've been diving deeper into music theory which has made me a better guitar player (although Negative Harmony is still witchcraft to me!) and allowed me to write some of my own tunes.

May I ask, OP, when you're commissioned to write a piece of music in whatever genre you mention how do you start the journey? Do you decide on a particular key? For example, I can't imagine being asked to compose an uplifting choral piece would require a tune in Dm.....

Lifetime gigging soloist, but completely burned out, so taking a lengthy, possibly permanent break.

Retired session and gigging bass player.

Gave it away in 1982 after 15 years of grind because one divorce was enough.

Still record originals on guitar, bass, keys and vox with ex bandmates so our kids and grandkids have something of our output to remember us by.

Very good mate of mine. Matt has now taken over. Andy is busy in Greece.

Would you recommend fine tuning pegs?

My Dad got me a beautiful Violin for Christmas but I struggle to get/keep it in tune for long and I've heard that fine tuners can ruin the sound a bit. The Violin sounds lovely, when I hit the notes that is!.
