headlights montage

hellllllllllllllllll,

why does factory even bother to crimp the terminals when they are all wrong ?
I would like to read a comment from them why on earth they crimp the wrong size
terminals for side lights and indicator if they cannot be used.........
The plastic covers for main beam and high beam are not good either, you have to remove them
and dispose them.........

Really? I received my lights recently, but have yet to fit them.... latest spec lights & loom. I'd be interested to hear any fitting tips or issues in advance of getting stuck in myself.

ok last time i needed even to drill some funny holes in the main beam bracket so i can give the factory credit that this was not necessary this time !
however the indicatorvstill needed trimming of the hole as factory again was not using the right size holesaw !
i have not started rear lights butbif they need trimming again therevwill be a call that is for sure

I suspect you will need to open up the holes for the rear lights as the LED one's (which I am assuming you have gone for) are slightly larger diameter than the standard lights. The body will be designed for the standard lights as you can't make a hole smaller!!!!

Hi on the subject of lights , iv just changed from the old land rover type front indicator lens too the clear type , well pleased with the look , keeps in tune with the other modern looking lenses in the front light cluster

hopefully not, since when I am ordering led lights with the kit why make the holes then for the other lights ?

mate, same issue here. all the headlight connectors SUCK. I've redone them all.

i got the LED tail lights, had to open up the rear light holes with a dremel. took probably 4-5 hours in total with a friend holding a vacuum next to the dremal sucking up the dust and a torch. drove me fking insane

btw, being in Australia, I ordered the lights with the entire kit at once...and they were too small. have fun

Nothing fits without modification on the whole car! Thats all part of the fun isn't it??

if the headlights do not fit again, Richard shall pray for me not coming to stoneleigh or Factory open day since I intend to cut off his balls then !
I told them last time if they cannot find a holesaw that fits the led lights they should not open them at all because I sure can find a saw of right diameter. now that they are open I only have the choice of hours with the dremel and the risk as last time to damage the GRP because the dremel metal holder likes to scratch the GRP !!!!!
And factory better comment on this cause I intend to have this thread alife for a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time.

Ah. Interesting feedback... sounds like I'm going to be busy (and careful) with the Dremmel. Sounds like I'm best to take the rear clam out of the conservatory, as grinding that much GRP will send a wife-upsetting dust cloud into the house

Ditto! I've been fed up with the battery running out mid-job, so bought a mains one.... now I'm dual-Dremel'd, so maybe that means I can sort the light holes twice as fast ;-)

Regarding the light fitment, I had to dremel out for both GTR and Can-Am (incandescent versions admittedly). It's always been this way AFAIK. Took about 30 mins tops, so either I have a mega-Dremel, am a GRP butcher or some are being over cautious

Gaffer tape around the apetures (several layers if you're feeling really paranoid) and dremel around in a circle against the rotation of the tool.

Job done.

For grinding, I used this tool.
It does not require high speed and works with an ordinary drill.
It is very effective and gives perfect radii.
I was ready in less than an hour.

Do not use a Dremel!

Dear Stig,

I agree my temper got loose still I am not seeing the reason for not using the right tool for opening the rear lights that are now LED type lights but instead having this mess with the Dremel. I did it before and it is almost impossible to get this nicely done, not too mention that the right size holesaw would create a perfect round hole.
I have never said that factory should change their mould and increase the size of the holes, but it seems a rather simple fix to pay for a custom size hole saw that would save every builder this mess with potential of damaging the rear clamp. I am still waiting for the factory to explain why they refuse to fix this issue now for serveral years. I have bought 2 kits from them and would do again I am just upset that I have do deal with this again.

Oh come on Stig, that is clearly not an insult and is a figure of speech. If this turns out to be correct it is perfectly justifiable to be upset IMO, if the factory don't drill the correct sized hole, it shouldn't come drilled at all.
