How do I solve this?
Discussion
Just managed to get my REV2 appand wifi odbkey working on my new Iphone today, after several years of not having a device to use it.
Been having issues with tuning, so I was not that surprised to see two error codes:
P0324 - Knock control system error
P0650 - malfunctioning indicator lamp control circuit malfunction.
Disconnected- reconnected knock sensors - but no joy.
I know about the lamp (the little orange one next to the ODB2 connector presumably.) the odd thing was that the ECM that was supplied to me, had a harness but no lamp. I swapped the lamp over from my other harness, plumbed it up, but it never worked, so ignored it.
Any gems of wisdom to sort this lot out?

That's always possible Dave.
Must admit, I am not too enamoured about the way things are dragging on right now.
Used a different scanner program last night with the same results ie the two fault codes below.
Tonight I will trace all the wires to make sure I have continuity, but beyond that I am not sure what else I can do.
This particular GM ECM is a bit of an unknown qty and tuning it means that it appears that I am reliant on only one 'expert' I know of.
On a different note - I was parked up in a lay-by yesterday whilst trying to swap a map, and this cop car did a U turn just past me, and pulled up behind...
Young community cop got out and said 'I had to come and have a look! - you past me last week, and I have heard your car this week, but couldn't find you!"
Nice guy - but he kept me talking for over 30 mins, whilst looking over my beast and I was late to get home! Lots of jokes about - can I borrow it - how about swapping his advertising lights onto my car etc etc-
I had to bid him farewell as we could have been there all afternoon!
He asked me if he could follow me as he wanted to hear the engine again! (* ahhhh - sweet!)....and since we were on a busy road he insisted on stopping the traffic with his car, whilst I pulled out, then did just that - followed me for a few miles until I lost him!

Update -
Knock sensor problem - checked continuity on all wiring from plug to ECM - all fine and no shorts
so - do I replace both knock sensors or what?
MIL problem - found I had power to light etc -MIL faulty bulb... tested it off the system - dead as a do-do, so where do I get one of these beauties?

Which version of ECM is it? Do you have wiring diagrams for it? Some of the version changes make subtle changes to pin positions so it may be your loom is pinned wrong for the ECM. Your missing MIL is one such example. This particular GM ECM is a bit of an unknown qty .......
Steve
It is an E38, and the wiring diags seem OK
I found the mil bulb has gone south, tested it off the car (both ways) and nothing!
...so I need to source another - what type and where from?
As for the knock sensors - yes I hear you, - from memory (I have it written down at home) I think it is C2 pin 26,27 & 29,30 and all the charts I have seen are the same so far???? and they are good...but I have no idea what to do next! ...and it is driving me nuts..
Time is running out for my booked track day, so if I can't find a solution, then I am going to back out and probably lose my payment...

BTW, if the system thinks the knock control has problems, it should just resort to some "safe" ignition and fuelling settings! This will limit power slightly (and increase fuel consumption) but won't cause any damage to the engine, even at WOT. If you still wanted to do the track day, i'd just make sure i was running on some nice high octaine fuel and get on with it!
Yep cleared all codes and within 30 sec of running again these codes come up.
I have some severe stuttering issues at 3k revs, and I know this might be unrelated, but like a good boy, it is wise to start with a clean sheet so-to-speak, thus I want to eradicate the cause of these errors before I move on. I have found the source of the MIL error (bust led - so trip to maplins), but I cannot fathom the knock sensor error... annoying...

BTW, the fact it has not set "circuit failure" codes for the knock sensors suggests it's not the sensor or wiring (you'd need a scope to validate what the ecu is seeing at the input connector)
Knock system failure, suggests that the knock control system cannot actively control the ignition timing, and is probably set by values within that system reaching some clipping value. For example, the system applying the maximum allowed ignition retard and yet knock still occurring.
Can you log any live data from your engine to see what the actual final fuel p/w and ignition angles are??

After checking the mounting etc I suggested previously, what I also tried was the following.
at your own risk, unmount the sensor(s) and place them in foam whilst connected. Cleared the stored code. Then run car with sensors suitably isolated from any transmitted mechanical vibration.
If the code returns, then you can follow up with further checks. If it doesn't then the possible cause could be mechanical moise caused by something other than engine.
There are a number of possibles.

We are putting the knock sensor problem to one site for now. There is no evidence of knocking from the logs.
Problem is that the MAF is maxed out still and not providing enough fuel, thus the cutting out on anything other than very gentle accel.
I am told that there is no way this engine ran on a dyno giving numbers as suggested with the map and setup supplied.
I am advised that we should dump the MAF now and do it the more complicated way - I am expecting a 2 Bar MAP sensor on saturday, then we will reprogram the ECM completely to accommodate a different way of mapping.

We did, but we kept every version for comparison.
JS was the supplier back in 2007. The exhaust has changed, but that is about it.
Obviously water-under-the-bridge, and a long time ago.
I have what I have.
Wortec are UK based and in the driving seat, recommended by Pete Knight, so perhaps I should run with this...
