You've been out for a drive in the toy. Collected your share of flies, moths, tar spots, dust, animal poo (country drives and safari parks!), and - heaven forbid - rain spots/road filth. What do you do?

Are you:-

a. The chap that gets the cloths out and clean her straight away.

or

b. The guy that puts her away and cleans her another day.

Personally, I like to ride her hard and put her away wet!

Anyone else?

I pro-detailed my car this year myself, washed, clayed, three stage polish and waxed, etc. Now the muck, flies, dirt & rain bead off and does not stick. Plus working away from home, I would hate to put it away mucky. All the hard work is worth it when after two months away I can come home, go to the garage, take the cover off and see a gleaming car inviting to drive! I do the same with my Caterham, which is seven years old and is looking so good that recently while parked on the Super yacht quay in Antibes I had a few tempting sale offers. Both cars being so low to the ground and when used are driven hard on the road suffer from being peppered with road debris. So imo if you don't do anything then it will look tatty very quickly. Also as keepers and not 'summer fun and trade on' toys I want to try my up most to keep them looking reasonable.

To answer your question. I don't wipe the dirt as it scratches the gel coat leaving swirl marks, and reducing the gloss in the gel coat / paint. I put it away without touching it (preferably dry) and leave the cleaning to another day when you have time to do the job properly.

No, but it has at least moved to the workshop and has at last started to make progress again.
I can do bits of an evening and Saturdays. We don't 'open' on a Saturday but I'm normally there as there are often quite a few business phone calls that come in.
