Wheel well Protection

Hi All
Looking for some advice on a coating for the wheel wells to combat impact damage from stones and reduce the noise from these impacts while driving, has anyone done this to their Ultima of fiberglass bodied car? or am I just wasting my time. Just started fitting the body which needs to be painted on the back so probably a good time to do this if needed at the same time.
