The story so far,
The fuel system which I have just about finished comprises of;
The two tanks feeding into a Y piece, fuel shut off valve and pre-pump filter into a the Holley Blue Top which in turn feeds the swirl pot mounted in the passenger side pod (the scoops should keep the fuel cool)........from the swirl pot a Summit fuel filter feeds a Bosch 044 fuel pump which is mounted on an alloy plate and rubber mounted to the floor.......the Bosch pump feeds a Fuelab filter mounted on the bulkhead. I’m hoping that this filter is about the right height to feed the fuel rails also the regulator .
I still need to tidy the wiring up and clean the tanks and oil cooler (which I hope clears the engine)

I have to sort out the oil lines as I think I'll go for a remote filter and themostat but these will have to wait until the engine is trial fitted to see where I can locate them.

How are you controlling which tank the fuel returns to?

Steve, my tanks are linked at the bottom with -12 hose, so they balance out.

Dave, I thought I was behind with this, or was that irony??

what the reason for having 3 fuel filters? I would have thought you only need one comeing out of the fuel tank before the holley?

I'm running a GM ECU with standard tune, might play with it later, but for now content to get the motor up and running with minimal 'playing'.......

Dave,
Having looked at my harness and your wiring, don't think there's much chance of being on the road before you, not looking forward to that part for sure....

Boring question!

What is the heat/sound insulation you have used around the engine bay?

I've covered my tanks and bulkhead in heatmat so as to try to keep most of the heat away from the fuel and cockpit, it's available from Car Builder Solutions or any motorsport type places. The heatmat I used isn't sticky back you have to glue it on, most now go for the sticky back stuff which has some form sound deadner in with the foil.

Thanks Graham

I have used the sticky backed stuff from Woolies for heat insulation down the outsides of cockpit but I don't think it is suitable for any areas that may be exposed to water/fluid as the glass fibre would become saturated.

I suspect what you have used is their product similar to Dynamat which is bitumen and rubber based with foil surface. Is this correct and does it make any difference do you think?

The covering I used was from CBS, just normal heatmat with a strong contact adhesive. As to making a difference, well things get very hot under there, so I guess every little helps.........but haven't done any before/after measurements.
Also by covering the tanks it means you don't have to polish them when they start to look tired smile

Haven't been doing much over the last few weeks but hopefully that will change in the next few weeks, but here's an update;
I have managed to feed all this.........

.........from the drivers luggage compartment via a 2" hole into the engine bay, just leaving the ECU and fuse box in the luggage bin...just need the engine now to see if it'll reach all the connections.
Meanwhile I have made a bracket for the throttle pedal and have mounted it on the top of the front bulkhead chassis rail. To give a bit more control over the throttle I have extended the shaft by 100mm, not much but it does give a bit more travel.....

I have used M5 female rose joints or rod ends to connect the two pedals with an M5 RH/LH threaded stud from CBS......

While I was there I decided to cover the radiator pipes with pipe foam and cover the openings that go into the cockpit with sticky heat mat, hopefully this will cut down some heat coming in to the cockpit.

I will also add some thickish sound deadener to the underside of the dash to try to stop heat build up under there on hot sunny days...might work, might not, but I need to do something as on hot sunny days it gets really uncomfortable in there.......
Hope to update this soon with engine pics........

Graham

Looking good Graham! I thought you might be extending the pedal lever so you don't get full throttle! No second choke on this one so it could get scary mate! wink

All the best with the install!
