This is a bit weird:

I have noticed that my Sony TV has a buzzing sound on the speakers but it only does it during some ad breaks and in the programme links, not in the programmes.

Any ideas?

Ad breaks are usually louder than programs, do you like to listen to the TV loud?

Is it definitely from the speakers and not the panel buzzing?

I had an LG lED TV doing this - they came out under warranty to fix it, said it was the panel, said they couldn't get the panel to replace and thus refunded me in full after 11 months and about 29 days! LG authorised the refund directly although it came from Amazon.

Went out shopping with the refund and due to prices falling bought a better TV for the same money.

I will take a closer look, but why does it buzz in the links, is their volume higher too?

Your not using a cable box are you? Its quite common for people to turn the volume down on theses boxes without realizing it then whacking up the TV volume to compensate then end result is buzzing/hissing in the background.

Bright colours can make plasma panels emit a very high pitched buzz.

To check this, try flicking between the screen modes, for example they might be called 'Dynamic', 'Cinema', etc.

I was considering sending ours back, until I saw it was on dynamic, and the problem reduced to a mostly inaudible level on the other settings.
