I've been using the 3 port version of this 5 port one for a few years now, it's spot on.

how well does the auto sensing function work ? it'll be in a different room and it's essential

I've never had a problem with it, I have a Sky box and an Xbox plugged in and use the third input for my laptop when streaming, never had to switch it manually.

One thing I would say about it is the LED is very bright, mine is hidden so doesn't matter that much but if it were out on display I imagine it could be distracting.

Have a look at the octava range, from the media factory in Scotland.

Very good and autosensing.
