Looking for a 5m hdmi cable to connect laptop to tv

Is a 5m run ok or might there be loss of signal?

Will a "cheap" cable do? or spend a bit more - any recommendations?

Thanks for advice...

Cable is the cheapest/easiest solution but it may also be worth having a look at the google chromecast or similar, depending on what your intended use is.

Personally though I am a big fan of having a cable. smile

I have a cable that runs from the cupboard under my stairs, up into the ceiling and under the floorboards upstairs, then down to my projector. I think that's more than 5m, and it works perfectly.

Ok, all sounds good then

Is there a good range of cables which are not too expensive?

There isn't a maximum length for HDMI cables as such, just needs to meet the required standards for attenuation, crosstalk etc.

As far as I know for anything up to around 10m a "normal" cable is fine.

There was an article a few years ago where some guys tested a load of 10 metre cables. They could measure differences in the cables with the cheapest coming at the bottom of the list. However when they actually plugged them in to real devices they couldn't see or hear any difference as error correction ironed out any problems.
