How much will 4k cost us.

Was just thinking that at the moment we pay.

£10pm that's £120 per year for HD sky.

£10 for DVD and £15 for Blu ray.

Whats your thoughts on the future, just for fun.

Sky? will they add 4k channels - extra £10pm on top of HD

Had not even thought about cinemas.

Well, 4k cinemas have been available since they went digital some time ago now, so that's easy.

I assume/hope that 4k will take over from Bluray, at the same price point otherwise it'll be very niche and probably won't survive.

Utterly un-interested in Sky/streaming unless it's Roadkill/Chris Harris on Cars etc on YouTube.

From what I've seen the broadcast networks aren't racing towards 4K anytime soon. Only BT have and that's just streaming content similar to Netflix.

Editing the content seems to be the issue, plenty of stuff is shot in 4K and then cropped/edited down to HD for broadcast. Upgrading all that equipment to handle actual 4K is going to cost a lot of money.

OT for a moment....

Phone $ly and tell them you are packing it in and going free sat+ series linked and Netflix. You won't be paying that £10 extra or anything for that matter for a while.

They will chuck your broadband in for free as well.

The new Sony 4k VPL-VW520 is 'only' £5,800 which compares well with other LcOS type projectors (JVC, Epson LS 1000 etc)

I've got the VW40ES which is 1080p but a fantastic projector.

My friend has the VW500 the 4K one, and it is truly fantastic.

I say that having not watched anything in 4k yet, just blu-ray. Even on a screen which is something like 18 ft wide, the upscaling is so good, there's no way you can see pixellation at a reasonable viewing distance.

It does make a noticeable difference even over my 1080p projector, I'd suggest that with native 4K the difference would be large.

The Sony PJ's do sound fantastic. I have an Epson 6100 atm, I really, really like it but I am aware of the black level being not as good as it could be, and the motion resolution isn't great. The detail on BluRay's on a bit screen is awesome though, I'm really interested to see how good 4k projectors are.
