Which of these TVs? How important is PQI?
Discussion
I've been waiting for 55 inch 4K Curved TVs to drop to around the £1,000 mark.
Well, this weekend we're pulling the trigger, most likely on one of these two :-
SAMSUNG UE55JU6500 Smart Ultra HD 4k 55" Curved LED TV - £949
http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/tv-dvd-audio/televis...
OR
SAMSUNG UE55JU6740 Smart Ultra HD 4k 55" Curved LED TV - £1199, but 10% off voucher = £1079
http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/tv-dvd-audio/televis...
Comparison table here...

I suspect the second one is the new version of the first one. The only discernable differences i can see are some styling changes (not bothered) FreeSat ability (not bothered), but increased PQI from 1100 to 1200.
Is it worth paying the extra for the increased PQI or will i not notice the difference anyway.

Why?
Their after-sales service is terrible - have a look at their Facebook page (they went as far as to tell one friend that they had to leave their TV plugged in all the time otherwise it would lose all the channel settings..)We're for Richer Sounds to look and have a chat with them. It'll be either Richer Sounds or Amazon i guess.
My 2 cents:
- Samsung make some good tv's at each budget.
- After having experienced it at a friends house, I would never. I repeat NEVER buy a "curved" tv. They are worse in so many aspects I can't even begin to describe. And this was a 60", I can't imagine what something as small as that 55" would do to the image.

Based particularly on the above, and the "avoid PC World crap customer service", we've went for this
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0133BASU4?psc=...
Its a non curved, but £200 cheaper and has a higher PQI rating, which within amazons range means a better display than those others with 1100 or 1200.
Delivery early next week!

I'm biding my time waiting for the OLED TV's to become a sensible price

If I can hold out that long, I will! Got a 55" samsung at a sensible price a number of years ago, not a smart tv but that is more than solved with the Chromecast.
I hope I can hold out for replacing either tv until OLEDs drop in price. Image is absolutely jaw dropping compared to what they offer now. Though longevity could be a problem?
Well the TV arrived sooner than expected.
Impressive. VERY impressive.
It does an exceptional job of upscaling on TV programmes / movies that have been shot in HD.
All the smart TV functions are there, which makes our chromecast probably redundant, and theres some nice touches like an auto dimming screen which adjusts the screen brightness dependent on the light in the room.
Picture quality is amazingly crisp. And it doesnt look that much bigger than our old 43 inch as it had quite a broad border around the screen.
Well pleased. Probably could have went 60 inch, but its only for the snug off our kitchen so didnt want to risk too big.

All picture enhancement stuff doesn't seem to work well...... even on my Panasonic plasma....
I would say theres only so much can be done with pic enhancement on a plasma if its not 4K.
We've a 50 inch plasma in the lounge and whilst its very good, theres only so much can be done by processing alone.
