I have just got a Sony KD55X8509C for £989 from RGB.
It is an Android TV so they did have some software issues when they were first released but it all seems sorted now.
55 inch, 4K, 3D, fantastic picture quality, ability to install apps from the play store and 5yr guarantee.
I have installed Kodi on it and it has the Amazon Prime video app installed so I have sold my fire tv box and nvidia shield tv box as this replaces the functions I used on these.
It also has PlayStation now so if you have a dual shock 4 controller then for £12-£13 a month you can play a catalogue of 120+ games for PS3. I am currently playing The Last Of Us and it looks very good.
Recently got YouView available which allows you go back the last 7 days to watch catchup all laid out in a planner style. It will also being getting the ability to record tv via USB HDD around the end of February 2016.
It may be able to run emulators but I haven't looked into that. I think it is just a dual core processor so may struggle a bit on anything more powerful than mega drive or snes level gaming.

That looks like a good tv!
Looking at reviews yeah the reliability is mentioned. I'd have to see this tv in person and the new production batches should be good?
The TV will be used for movies (maybe Sky Box Office if it's HD and/or DVD etc) and also games (though consoles don't support 4k HD). The sofa is in front of the TV so I don't believe I need a curved TV.
I am looking for 55 inch, £1100 budget maximum.
It's a good TV and I think most issues have been sorted now, I certainly haven't got any complaints.
I bought it just before Black Friday as the plasma went bang and 'needed' another TV. With I got a free Sony speaker bar, wireless headphones and HDMI lead. I have sold the speakers and headphones on eBay so that took the overall price down to £900 which considering it was £1600 in June/July, it's a bargain.
It has a twin tuner freeview HD built in so once recording becomes available in February, it could potentially replace the Sky box.

I was torn between the Bravia, the one mentiined above, and the Panasonic Viera Curved TX-55CR730B. I went for the Panasonic in the end after looking around them in the shops, looking at the specs and owners' reviews. They're very similar on spec and they both get very good owner reviews.
I just fancied the curved to be honest! Currently in Currys £995 I think.

I had a bonus from work recently and really wanted to upgrade our living room TV from a 40" to a 50", i saw a decent 1080p offer in Argos which led me to look at the price for a 4k.
I ended up buying this after a little bit of research:
http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/B...
The only issue that i could find was that the motion rate is 200Hz (think it's referred to as PQI too sometimes?) and a lot of other (more expensive) TV's had much, much higher ones. Some reviews said it made football look a little bit jumpy and other things.
Got it home, messed about with a few setup tutorials on picture quality and i've never noticed any jumpy bits.
I'm glad i have it, but there really isn't anything that i'd watch in 4k for a few years, i've downloaded a couple of samples but unless you're trying to show it off to people who pop over it's fairly pointless.

Now you've missed the Black Friday deals I'd recommend hanging on until Jan sales... Most of the top end stuff has gone back up in price (c.10% vs last week)... you'll still find mid range sets at good prices though.
If you must have it now I'd have a look at this...
http://www.richersounds.com/product/tv---all/samsu...
That one has Samsung nanocrystal tech from the 8000 & 9000 series, but does without 3D and some other features.
But I think you'd be able to get a JU7000 for c.£1,100 if you're prepared to wait - which is direct back lit vs edge lit.
There's a review of the 48" version here; http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/ue48ju7000-20150927...
I would also suggest paying a visit to Richer Sounds if you have one near you... I bought a JS9000 from them last week, and the service and advice I got over several visits was excellent.
Oh, and don't discount curved until you've had a good look at one... I absolutely didn't want curved... went to look at TV's and really liked them. I'm sat in front of my new one now and it's just stunning!!

On a 'sample and hold' TV (LED, OLED) 200Hz would refer to backlight scanning, which you would only care about if you were using black frame insertion. There is no reason for motion to look jumpy on a sample and hold TV. What does happen is that moving things appear blurry, due to a combination of slow response from the TV and how your brain works. To 'fix' this you use backlight scanning or black frame insertion. Can't say I've ever seen the need myself, I hate impulse TV's (plasma, CRT) because of the flickering, I certainly don't want to put it back!PQI is a made up number Samsung uses to describe the relative picture quality of their sets, it doesn't directly relate to anything. It's a bit like how a BMW 335i doesn't have a 3.5 litre engine, it just means it's engine is a '35' on the BMW performance index.

I can't say too much about the quality of the tv's sound as We've got ours with a Sony hit-nt3 soundbar and that's great too
Ooops I never saw the home cinema and hi-fi section at all!
So it looks like it's a toss between:
The Sony TV two thread posters here have (all the reviews are excellent if reliability is not mentioned, but even on Richer Sounds, recent posts mention reliability issues which would imply recent builds?)
LG (can't remember the exact model name)
The Panasonic 55 inch Panasonic Viera TX-55CR730B (this looks good!)
With things like Google Cast, is NFC not a requirement?

I just bought this: http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/tv-and-home-entertain... absolutely delighted with it, to be honest and better on SD than I expected.
Into the bargain I had a huge row with the Currys 'tards that tried to sell me uber-expensive HDMI cables 'coz they're faster and don't choke the signal, mate...' Idiots.

Well we have the Sony 43X8305C which we bought at the beginning of November, and to be quite frank it is s
t! The picture quality is stunning but the software is so poor that it is almost unusable, in order of annoyance.
1. Stops responding to remote or goes v e r y s l o w l y!
2. Can't turn on.
3. Can't turn off - blank screen with sound playing
4. Youview doesn't work.
5. Wireless connection is useless, making iPlayer unusable.
6. Regularly needs re-booting.
It's going back as not fit for purpose, these are common complaints, check out the community pages: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/2015-b...

I've had the Panasonic for over 2 weeks now and it's just brilliant. Picture quality is excellent after messing with the settings to how I like it. All of the functions on it work smoothly and streaming is fast, had no buffering at all streaming HD Netflix via wireless. The menus and apps are neatly presented and easy to use.
I did have one problem with getting Netflix working at first, seemed a common thing with them having looked around. The fix was to sign in on PC and make sure all the parental controls were correct and manage new devices.

All of that is why I walked past the Sony TV's and picked up the warmer looking Panny!

I was in the process of doing that when the salesman talked me into the Sony. Normally immune to these guys, but they had them side by side and the Sony was so much prettier. Typical bloke, head turned by a pretty girl
