Would like to get a 4K tv for the living room, which will be used for Netflix, amazon, iplayer etc, and the PS4. As well as my Mac mini.
I doubt it will ever be connected to an aerial.
I'm thinking of sized between 40-50" , my living room is quite small.
Budget, say up to £600.
Have found this sony available at £600
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0151C75I6/ref=...
Is this a good tv for the price? Or can I get better? Any recommendations?
I assume I should be able to get a good deal at this time of year?
Cheers.

We have the 43" version, and whilst the picture Is simply stunning the software is the worst kind of s
t than man has ever produced. We had only had it two weeks and it was going back as unusable.
Sony did an update recently so it is vastly improved, but still has issues. It looks like we will be now keeping it, but it's borderline.
Check out the Sony community forum and the hi-fi section here on PH, there are threads about it.
Key remaining issues for us, are
1. You view doesn't work.
2. Wireless can be flakey, wired connection breaks home hub!
3. Needs re-boot once a week or so.
2 can be fixed by 3.
It is a stunning picture though.
Would have liked a 50" but it wouldn't fit, and 43" is big enough. It's not supposed to be the focal point of the room and my neighbours have their own TVs to watch.
There was supposed to be another update on xmas eve but not turned it on since to see if it's improved.

Thanks super sport, that has been my conclusion from my research that the android software is just s
t.
I've never been a fan of android phones, so I think an android tv may result in my hammers going where they shouldn't!!
Shame really as I've only ever bought Sony before, but it looks like I'm going to try a samsung.
I've come across this on Argos which looks a good deal? http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4...

I've watched some of the Netflix 4K content on my js9000 Samsung, and in all honesty, it's not much different to 1080p, which probably reflects how good the upscaler in the js9000 is.
The real step up in picture quality comes with UHD... I have a Samsung UHD film pack and it's amazing! But we'll not get that on SKY/Virgin etc with current internet speeds - a 4K UHD film is c.35gig.
The 6400 samsungs are pretty decent (We have the previous model in our apt In Spain), but I'd suggest a trip to richer sounds to go look at some for yourself.

That's what I was thinking of replacing the Sony with. Not been to see it yet though.

There were software troubled with them too early on, but they seam to have been resolved.
I used to be in the trade, checkout a website called TPS, its The Perfect Signal in Ashton.
I found their prices unbeatable and 7 year warranties, Samsung have had a history of switching on and off themselves,
Possibly the a power Supply Init in the tv.
Panasonic are outstanding, however my Christmas purchase was a Sony. At my price range it outshone the Panasonic
equivalent. The Sony is amazing and faultless, they went crap for a very long time, however last 2 or 3 years they have
Upped their game at Sony.

Further more, 4K is a better quality, Just not a lot broadcast in 4k yet, but if you go on youtube and playback something in 4k it is truly amazing, again this is subjective. I ended up buying the DVD player from Sony which will now involve buying Blu Ray discs. It does upscale my standard DVD's too and I can notice a difference.
OLED is the next level again but very costly at the moment.
There is a lot to be said for the human eye though, I reckon that when you can only register to the level of your eyes' capability. Sounds obvious......
Go into the shop and compare the pictures and ignore the comments from sales assistants about the differences, make your own mind up.
I have been loyal to Panasonic for 20 years and took the sony plunge for the first time, mine is a 65" which is disconnected from my home wifi network, because its a TV, not a bloody computer. See who's SMART now eh ?

Well i went into my local tv store who had both the Sony and Samsung, and had a discussion with the knowledgable chap.
He assured my Sony have fixed the android issues, and gave me a good demo on both.
I found the Sony was easier to use, and a marginally better picture quality.
Was £30 more expensive than amazon, but bought it there as felt he offer good advice etc.
After a couple of days playing with it, i am very impressed, and have had no software issues.
The picture quality is simply stunning, the PS4 picture quality is a world different from the old one.
I dont currently have a good enough internet connection to stream 4K content, but netflix/youtube picture quality streamed on a 6mbps connection is very good as long as a couple of meters away from tv screen.
Bluray film is again stunning quality.
So very happy with the Sony.

I spent a fairly long time (3 visits of about an hour each!) in Currys before Xmas looking at their entire range of 4k TVs. I wanted one before xmas but ended up holding out for the sales on one TV that I thought looked considerably better than all of the others in my price range (and the one that the Currys guys all said was by far the best looking TV under a grand in the shop). This one:

Went from £849 to £699 on Boxing Day. The picture is incredible. Watching 1080p encodes through my media server the picture is immaculately sharp and vivid. Looks great on all TV content; even SD upscaled looks decent (something that is a big issue with a lot of 4K TVs). Motion ( 1000hz) is also perfect, another issue with a lot of 4k TVs. Most other ones had significant banding and blurring under motion.
Contrary to some issues posted online about it, I have had 0 issues or problems at all.

Looking at a few 55" 4K TVs myself and am surprised at how hard it is to find one that's in stock in store!
I've settled for Samsung as it's in my price range (£800-£1000) however not sure if I should go curved.
Below are my 2 options. Any advice much appreciated:

Curved is down to taste really. Personally i'm not sold on it for smaller screens.
If you go flat, i'd recommend you take a look at this one at the same price and compare it to the Samsung in store: http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/tv-dvd-audio/televis....

If you're not specifically after curved, the 6800 is a better set. It has the nano colour tech of the 8 and 9 series, so will be better with UHD content when it comes out next year. I've settled for Samsung as it's in my price range (£800-£1000) however not sure if I should go curved.

You did go into the settings on both and not just go by how they happen to be set up at that moment in the shop>? I went round playing with the settings on all the ones I was interested in. The motion on a lot of the Samsungs I looked at was awful. Horse racing happened to be on one time I went in there and that really highlighted the good from the bad! Some LG ones I looked at looked like blurry messes, you could hardly make out the horses!

Personally I don't really see the point in curved except for the price premium
