Budget blu-ray player with optical output and USB in?

Does anyone still make a budget blu-ray player with an optical output?
A friend is using an old AV amp without HDMI inputs, so the player will go straight to the TV.
Although the TV's optical output goes back to the amp, I'm not sure if he will get proper 5.1 audio this way.
I noticed that many newer players have USB inputs, which allow playback from a HDD. He wants this facility too, for playing music. The lack of an optical output means that the TV would have to be left on.
He's on a limited budget, and a blu-ray player with optical out and USB in would seem to do everything he needs - if such a thing is still being made.

No idea, but if so the surely older blu-ray players would struggle? With both my PS3 and 4, when it asked to update there was an option to ignore it, it just disabled network features which was fine. Personally I'd turn off auto update and try it, if that fails then I'd delete the network connection to isolate it from the Internet.

I get maybe one update every couple of months on my PS3, which typically takes no more than 10 minutes to download and install on an 8mb line.
If that's still too much, just turn off the networking features.
I bought an LG Blu-ray player from Asda in the sales 3-4 years ago for £35. Check the current supermarket sales.

The TV might pass through a 5.1 signal. Look for something in the sound settings that you can flick between 'PCM' and 'Bitstream' or something similar. You want the Tv to just pass the signal through, without doing any decoding or whatever. If it's not working the reciever will just get a standard stereo signal, I'd expect it to light up a DTS or Dolby Digital light when it's getting a 5.1 digital signal.
