I have one of each of these, Sky for general viewing and the BT box which I only really use for Netflix and the odd sports event.
The BT box absolutely creams Sky's offering for picture quality on both Netflix and channel watching.
(Which I can also use it for but tend not to as it doesn't record and the UI is a bit clunky)
Both boxes are into the same Samsung full HD telly both using HDMI.
Is there a way to improve Sky's quality? Or am I right in thinking that Sky has dropped the ball on the provision of broadcast TV and is far too expensive and puts adverts into channels you're paying to watch.
The BT box is internet only, by the way.

It's amazing the things you ponder when you have such a sore throat you can't eat and drinking brings tears to your eyes.

All comes down to offering as many HD feeds as possible over the air. There's only so much bandwidth, and I imagine Sky are at their limit.

UHD is going to make things even worse.

Is it the sky box or a poor signal going into the box ?

Yes I'm watching HD channels.
The Sky picture is good but the BT box picture is much much better.
I do have a fairly good download speed (75meg), has that got anything to do with it.

Just had a soothing bowl of ice cream, and 2 ibuprofen.
Hopefully I'll get some sleep tonight

No the signal bars are 80% full.

The box is quite old, 8 years ish, could that be it.

It's the compressed feed that Sky use.

I find the picture quality on Sky Sports and the Movies to be top notch, but some of the others can be a bit variable. For instance if I flick between Match of the Day and Sky's highlights program, there is a noticeable improvement in quality on the Sky channels.

I've also noticed the variability of HD channels. F1 is always the best, but BT is better again than that.

Just to keep you updated my mother appeared with a bottle of TCP yesterday insructing me to gargle with it. 24 hours later it's almost cleared up.
