I have a SKY+ box and subscription.

I'm constantly experiencing signal issues.
The picture breaks up a lot, recordings fail, often get the 'No signal' or 'Technical Fault' error messages.

SKY have been completely useless and just repeatedly say 'Try unplugging everything'.

I've had an independent television aerial engineer list who said 'Your signal is better than mine at home'
He said the box, big communal dish and all cables are good.
Obviously, when he came round, the box was working fine. I did show him pixelated recordings though.

The thing is, it's basically impossible to watch TV anymore with SKY. The picture is constantly breaking up.
Can be ok for a couple of days then terrible for a week. It does get worse during bad weather but the engineer said the dish is high enough and in the right position. HD channels are worse.

Does anyone know of any setting etc.I could try. Thanks!

Unless you're in contract, ring up and say you're cancelling. They'll soon sort it. Don't pay either if they try to charge for an engineer visit.

Does anyone else on the communal aerial have similar issues?

Not in contract. They have just agreed to send one of their engineers round for free. (Had to fight them from £65 charge, to £30 to free!)

Thanks

Flat upstairs is empty, downstairs they use their own dish. Will investigate further though.

I had similar issues and it was water getting into a joint in the cabling. Fixed by running new cables - not sure how easy this would be with a communal dish.

Had same problem last year and it was a tree in the garden that had grown a bit and obscured the line of sight for the dish, sky bloke recognized the issue straight away, and moved the position of a new dish, and also supplied a new sky+ box, as ours was a old version, been fine since.

Wow! I had something similar and a call to sky and this guy spent about an hour on the phone talking me thru a complete hard drive rebuild. Just brilliant. In fact, I don't think I've ever had a call with sky where they weren't ridiculously helpful.

Where are you?

I have a full test rig for our contract in London and if your engineer didnt have a full and proper digital spectrum analyser then there is no way of knowing what is happening to the signal.

The levels could be fine, but if an amplifier is failing within the system it could be introducing lots of noise which will be making the digital signal uninteligable.

If your local I could pop in one time and have a look.
