OH had Virgin out to replace a set top box and I notice they have now fitted this thing:

I like to understand, as far as possible, what things are doing.

It looks a little heath robinson for my tastes but happy to be corrected if it's actually super duper brilliant.

Signal is probably low when he measured it, this will give better signal, rather than a passive splitter which will decrease the signal.

You could always bypass it and see if everything still works.
