OK so its quite an age but I have had this Technics Music System for years, grown old with it.
But what I've found, known about for a while, is that one channel is quieter than the other. It's not the speakers as I've swopped them over. It's all inputs, tuner, CD, tape.
Is this terminal or a simple fix, it's my guess it's something in the amp but I'm not electronically minded.

I had the same issue. I noted that when I turned around, the issue would change from one speaker to another. Similar with head phones, if I switch ears it switches head phones.

Diagnosis, I'm old

Funnily enough i am a bit deaf, more so in one ear (too many years in a Caterham with the wind buffetting my right ear) and that was making me think it was me not the kit but no, its the stereo unit.
So it's pretty much terminal then. (The kit not me)

I also have an old technics amp which has this problem on and off.

Usually what helps is giving the amp a good slap. Failing that i use the balance control to manually adjust it.

Good slap sounds good and about my electronics capability!
Even the balance control isn't sufficient unfortunately

I've recently had the same with a 13 year old Pioneer AV receiver, which lost its ability to drive speakers equally. Didn't look into whether it could be repaired, but enjoying the Denon replacement now!

New toy for me, but things like internet radio getting a lot of use and the sound is much more balanced having done the Audessey set up. If replacing is an option, you might be pleasantly surprised by how much things have moved on!

Mine has started outputting no sound when I switch it on now. I've found that turning the volume up really high seems to kick start it into life and then it works OK, also usually with the balance sorted. It has an electronic volume display - don't know if your's is similar.
