Samsung UE55D8000 - who to repair / call-out
Discussion
Bought from 1st AudioVisual back in June 2011 so its likely beyond any warranty. Whilst I'm in the process of moving home anyway, and this TV probably won't end up being the main living room TV any more (55" will look a bit lost in the new room) I'd still like to put it on the wall in the family room instead....
However, over the last couple of weeks it has started to turn itself off/on randomly (suspect a capacitor / board issue having Googled it) and, when turned on today, has a dark 'band' across the top of the screen. Not a distinct row of pixels, more of a dark 'wash' that covers the top 1/5th of the screen.
I don't really want to send it off anywhere (unless it totally dies obviously!) as then I wouldn't have a TV in the main lounge, and without a suitable box, a 55" panel will be a bugger to ship anywhere, so I think someone coming out to repair it might be a better option - but does anyone do this and can anyone recommend someone - Herts / Beds border.

Once the UE55D8000 isn't my main TV anymore, I don't mind so much it goes into a workshop, but whilst its the lounge TV that's a bit of a challenge!
I'm now considering a projector / screen to replace it in the living room of the new house... just need to work out what!
My LG TV turned itself off a few times without warning and then wouldn't come back on at all. I bought a 2nd hand AV board and 2nd hand power board (£60 ish in total). Swapped them over and its been fine since. Have a look on youtube etc they are surprisingly easy to work on when you replace the whole boards - few screws and cables to clip in - that's it.
OK, it might not work, but for the sake of less than 10% of the TV value its probably worth a punt.

Any modern electronics seem to have issues with capacitors in their power boards.
I have the previous model Samsung (55C8000) but that was bought to replace a 'failed' plasma - so a D-series is likely to be out of warranty. When I did a bit of research before throwing the plasma out, checking common issues then bought the capacitors needed - replacing the common on fixed the TV and its worked since, and did similar with an AV amp as well. My local TV shop wanted £120 for bench time alone - the solder and parts cost less than £5 from Maplin.
If you don't fancy soldering, most of these are modular so it will be one seperate board for power and easily swapped over.
