Transferring FLAC files from Olive 03HD backup to PC
Discussion
I had similar issues ages ago with a similar product (iMerge S2000) - like Olive, they decided to use a propriety Unix program meaning the only way to access and move files with a PC was to hack the firmware and software image contained on the inboard HDD.
Having had a quick look about at my old haunts it seems the Olive needs hacking before you're able to do what you need - madness, especially when it's your own paid for CDs that were ripped in the first place with all licences paid up.
I'll,keep searching but I'm down to googling now so I suppose you're just as likely to stumble across an answer as I am
Shame as I remember them sounding very, very good.

Yes the Olive 03HD sounds great, but the touch screen is becoming a biy flaky. so as a precaution I thought I'd get my FLAC stored on a PC as an extra back-up. I hadn't realised how hard it would be and I spent days getting my CD's saved onto FLAC with the Olive - I'm struggling finding anything on Google

Found something that should work.
"Indeed the backup files/drive with the Olive backup will not be "recognized" by your windows computer. You will also not be able to load the backup music files into a Windows system.. So kind of propriety music files hid by Olive.... The same with any computer connected to your local network, they will typically not see the Olive music files.. There is a way to see your Olive files from a (windows) computer though. You should load the freeware XMBC. with this program you will not only be able to see the music on your Olive from any Windows computer, you can also copy the music files to a (windows readable) file...."

Looks an excellent resource and repeats the claim that loading XMBC onto a PC allows you to 'see' and handle Olive created files.
It's a long thread but I'm sure the details will be in there somewhere - even if it takes a couple of hours to read and digest it has to be better than re-ripping a whole collection (not something I'd ever want to repeat...)

I need to transfer my music files, which are stored in FLAC format, on a separate hard drive. The operating system they were saved with is Linux based system (the Olive 03HD music server).
Does anyone know how I can transfer the FLAC files to a windows style folder?
If the Olive really is based on Linux*, you should be able to boot your PC from a live Linux CD, and then you'll be able to 'see' both the Windows and Olive disks.Does anyone know how I can transfer the FLAC files to a windows style folder?
Then you should be able to copy between the two.
- assuming Olive have not used some proprietary method to store the flac files.
