Guys,

Looking at getting a Ruark R4 Mk.3 for the "music room". It seems to tick all the boxes (DAB radio and CD, good sound quality within a single box). Everywhere seems to be about £700. Most reviews seem to be very positive. Before I spend the cash:

Any experiences here (positive or negative)?

Any cheaper alternatives for similar performance?

Ta.

CD Player, DAB and no streaming? It seems a bit "last century".

I would be inclined to buy a Naim Muso, although it's about £100 more expensive.

Yes. We have an R4 and an R1 and they're expensive but worth it, the sound is very good.

Is there a reason you'd buy an R4 over a seemingly much more highly specced yet cheaper R2?

Either that, or wait until the R4 has caught up in terms of spec? It looks to me like the R4 is maybe much later in its model cycle, and due an update relatively soon to incorporate that new-fangled invention called the internet?

Personally, I know Spotify might not be the best sound quality there is, but I wouldn't buy anything that didn't support Spotify Connect, purely for the vast breadth of music it offers.

£300 more and no CD. They do sound good though.

We (my wife) has an R2 and loves it for its simplicity and sound quality.
I am looking for something that will also play CDs hence the R4 but am baulking at the price.
Was looking at a Denon DM 40 set up yesterday at under £300 - What HiFi rate it as the best but then owner reviews elsewhere rather contradict the experts.
Anyone suggest any other options - Denon has separate speakers and can already see wife muttering about that and probably hiding one under a table or behind a door but I was brought up on separates.
