Wireless SKY tv?
Discussion
Does such a thing exist?
When we built the house we had coax and broadband wired to each room, the intention was that we would distribute sky via a splitter controlled by magic eye units. Whilst this works fine the picture quality it rubbish on all tv except the main one connected to the sky box.
Is there any way we can get better sky picture in the other rooms maybe via some kind of wireless router or use the broadband connection?
Any help much appreciated

Depending on your other Tv's, yes and easy.
We do it all the time with freeview HD modulators that take the HDMI output and create a freeview HD channel that tv's can tune into.
Much like the RF2 output, but in the digital realm.
Current cost is about £125/£150 all set up and shipped to you.

I can recommend the Edision hdmi modulator having recently bought one myself. Easy to set up and picture quality is excellent. Currently £150 on Amazon which is as cheap as it gets.
I originally bought a Technomate as it was cheaper but returned it as it simply wouldn't work reliably - I lost around 1/2 the freeview hd channels when it was on.

Great, thanks.
Is the modulator connected to HDMI port on the sky box , then the main coax feed on the proception box which distributes round the house
Yes, The HDMI port from Sky box (Q or HD) connects to ModulatorIs the modulator connected to HDMI port on the sky box , then the main coax feed on the proception box which distributes round the house
Then the RF Output of the Modulator connects to the RF IN on the Sky or I/O Port of the Sky Box.
Then the RF2 Out connected to the distributions system.
This will then give you Freeview HD -SKY channel shared around the house and maintaining RF2 Remote control.
SkyQ isnt always the answer. you can only run two Sky Q minis at a time, so if you have more than 3 TV's you still need some sort of distribution system.

We use a lot of the Technomates now, not problem with it killing other HD Channels, but it does have a VERY high output level, which you have to reduce, otherwise it can swap (overpower) the other Freeview Channels - weird I know, but it is to do overall power of transmissions.I originally bought a Technomate as it was cheaper but returned it as it simply wouldn't work reliably - I lost around 1/2 the freeview hd channels when it was on.
Could also be that you had the channel freq set to be ontop of the other channels.

Nope. Unused channel frequency. I did a lot of diagnostics at the time (including reducing output levels) but every time it was switched on the signal quality of the HD channels dropped to zero. Maybe I just had a faulty unit but the Edision in comparison I simply switched on, changed the channel and channel frequency and away it went.Could also be that you had the channel freq set to be ontop of the other channels.

Sky q multi room looked perfect! Phoned sky up and was told the equipment is free and it would cost an extra £12 per irrespective of the number of mini box, perfect! They asked how many mini boxes I need, I reply with 4, that will be £450 installation fee!!!!!! Can I install it myself? No he replies, forget then!
Also, you can only run 2 mini boxes at any one time!
I got our Q Silver and a Mini for free, no £12 increase and only £60 install. Didnt go through the call centre, visited a consession stand in Brentcross shopping centre.
Didnt expect the deal I got at all, didnt have to push for it either.

plus they want to make sure the boxes are set up and communicate well, otherwise you'll always be on the phone for support
I have 'supported clients and Sky guys' on a number of projects and the number of checks they have to do on the system is amazing compared to the old HD install. They are given 3hrs per install as aposed to about 45mins for an HD one and Sky own the box, it is not yours so hardware issues are Skys problem now, not yours, you are renting it from them.
