Floor mounted PJ screen
Discussion
We're currently building an extention and as the room won't be used for watching regular TV we've decided to use a projector instead. This is mainly because it's neater than having a big TV on display.
Because of where the screen would need to be, it'll be a good metre into the room so it's either an integrated screen (£££!), an ugly screen mounted on the ceiling or a portable lift up screen.
I was looking at a Sapphire 122 or 162cm wide screen Link and the screen will be approx 2.5m from the sofa. Based on the various calculators, the BenQ W2000 seems to be a good match.
I'll also take the opportunity to install 5 Monitor Audio C165 speakers from Vex.
So really, I'm seeking advice to see if what I'm doing above is ok. I realise that it would be better to have a ceiling mount but unless there's a sub-£500 integrated screen then I think that's not going to happen.
Your help is gratefully received.

That's a great suggestion but my Mrs baulked at a 2m screen, never mind a 2.7m/9ft screen! Shame their smallest is 2m.I'm a bit unsure about navigating the different options so it's difficult working out what's a good screen and what's junk.

I've just installed my benq W2000 yesterday. Really impressed for the money.
The dealer I bought from recommended spending the extra over the W1070 which I originally was going to buy
I arrived at the same conclusion from reading the reviews. It does seem like a good buyThe dealer I bought from recommended spending the extra over the W1070 which I originally was going to buy
They pop up
now and again on Ebay in various sizes. Worth keeping an eye out for a 2m.
£300 for a 7'

Perhaps the ripple can be addressed?

Aside from used ones, also take a look on Amazon, there are a lot of very cheap ceiling mounted screens with good reviews. It doesn't need to look ugly- just box it in full length of room and put coving on each side and so on so looks like a RSJ.
I have used the floor ones before, and they work fine for a temp solution, but if this is a permanent solution, has to be ceiling imo.
Aso you have mentioned speakers, but not about buying a Sub.

Hi Trevor,
Which way do your ceiling joists run?
We could just hid an on-ceiling, in the ceiling so it appears down through a slot in the ceiling. It is what I did here.

I've thought about doing that. If there was some sort of guide on how to do something like that then that would be relatively straightforward at this stage. The trap door could just stay up with magnets, it doesn't have to be an electric screen.Which way do your ceiling joists run?

I'd have thought it would be pretty straight forward. Build an MDF box to house the screen, paint it white, fix to a parallel joist. Plasterboard/skim flush up to it. Painted hinged lid with push catch and magnets.Bit like this but upside down

it is a 104" Diagonal Motorised Tab Tensioned Screen with a fairly high RRP.
From memory it is about 2.4m wide and we sit about 4m from it. I could have gone bigger, but I wanted it to stay within the patio door width for aesthetic.
You just need to watch for the light control in the room because projectors wash out in day light.
