for the last 10 years or so we have been a bit nomadic, and have been using itunes for music playback, streamed to jbl creature speakers via an airport express.

we have now bough a house and my cds have been exhumed from the packing crate that have been in since 2007. I would like to upgrade the living room sounds. I am not after top end hi fi, but something that sounds decent, and has minimal impact on the room and limited wires would be the hopeful outcome.

I would like to be able to stream from the laptop most music obtained over the last 10 years is in itunes, I am not sure I want to rip the remaining CDs so a reasonably priced cd player might be on the agenda (Before the travelling spell, I had a marantz cd player and NAD amp, both of these seem to continue t get good reviews in the affordable price bracket)

I quite like the unobtrusiveness of the Teenage Engineering OD11 (re-invented Carlsson speaker) which would handle the streaming part of the process and tick the wireless option. But there doesn't seem to be many about, Richer sounds will supply but I don't think they have any instore to listen to before buying.

I had a play with some Bose stuff in currys, which might fit the brief, but you couldn't call it attractive

I'd welcome any tips or other things to look at

Why don’t you get a pair of half decent speakers and an amp and just plug your laptop directly into the amp? That’s the easiest way.

budget wise, the OD11 is £500, the main attraction is that it looks super cool, and is wireless. I guess my main issue is how to best incorporate the cd playback preferably without loads of wires trailing around the place. so probably add a bit for dealing with the cds - although maybe its worth getting one of the kids to sit and rip the cds and keep them all on my time capsule.
