I’m about to go the freeview route.
ex Virgin / Currently SkyQ
SkyQ has been pretty flaky TBH. Not impressed.
My main reason for changing though is due to the dire content on the zillion satellite channels! Doesn’t matter how wonderful the system is if it worked, as nothing worth watching on it anyway..
99% if anything that interests me is on Freeview + will save £60+ a month for small outlay..
So was thinking off getting a couple of BT YouView + boxes to pause/record etc
Are these any good, any better options for similar price please?
I have NowTv incl Sky Movies ‘free’ with mobile
I know no wifi on these boxes. Maybe will need a wifi booster with ethernet to get to second box for catchup etc
May as well get a new aerial at same time.
So 6 months payback time & no bills after that..
Cheers

We used to have Sky but went YouView a couple of years ago (only free channels, we don’t have an account with anyone).
It’s been great, and you can buy them new from eBay for about £50 - which I guess is pretty much one month of Sky subscription?
Only thing I’d say is that the BT/Humax box is noticeably faster than the Huawei/TalkTalk box (have used both).

The Youview+ box is in & working well. The HD channels are as good quality as SkyQ to me.
One drawback, the ‘live’ sky channels on NowTv app are not available via Youview. You can only access the Movie content.
Not a big deal as can use the smart Tv app still, but would have been nice if NowTv worked fully on YouView! One more remote..

4000 is the latest generation YouView box, with Ultra HD. To take advantage of Ultra HD, you'll need a subscription though (as nothing on Freeview, or the standard catchup TV stuff is broadcast/available in Ultra HD?).
Cheers, Ultra HD isn't something I need right now, I'm still using an old plasma, but I would like a responsive EPG and as much future-proofing as I can. Forums | Home Cinema & Hi-Fi | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
