Moving away from Virgin Media, mainly watch the free channels / Netflix but do like the recording ability on the V6 box.

So far it looks like it’ll be the YouView+ Any hands on experience? or recommendations?

Thanks
Joe

Panasonic PWT-550EB is £249 (ao, RS, Currys etc)

Freeview Play, Netflix, twin tuner etc

We've got an older version without the Freeview Play and it works fine.

For non Sky or Virgin freeview or freesat boxes, I've always researched and then ended up getting a Humax one. My Dad has a freeview one, and I've got 2 freesat ones at home. Never had a problem with them.

There appear to be a few different ones available depending on size of hard disk and number of tuners.

Have a look on eBay or similar for a BT TV Youview box, they are made by Humax, often ex BT subscribers sell them on. I have two now, they work perfectly, you need to plug a ethernet cable in for catch-up etc.

Or look at Humax refurb. https://www.humaxdirect.co.uk/refurbished.html

Nobody seems to have invested heavily in this yet. I suppose most people have either Sky or Virgin now. Anyway, Freeview boxes have always been terribly slow and poorly designed compared to boxes from the main to media giants.

Gone are the days of the Topfield TF-5800 PVR. That was a superb piece of kit. A great little device which had a massive online community of developers.

I have a Humax Foxsat myself, its slow, but the picture is good and its reliable, but I use it less and less these days, instead choosing to use the apps available on the Smart TV.

Thanks for the replies all. I was already ready to purchase the Humax (I like the idea of being able to record multiple programs) but got a call from the VM retention team, package now halved with basic channels and I still keep the V6 box... which is actually rather good.
