Looking at Argos as I get 10% off with working for them.

It's OK.

Looking at the specs it has an 8-bit panel so whilst it suggests HDR compatibility it'll display an HDR source, you're likely not going to get the full benefit.

If HDR isn't an important issue for you than a 55" at the price is pretty decent.

What are you wanting the TV for. Gaming / movies general TV. What's the main video source? Personally I would be looking at 10Bit HDR premium certified set with HDR10 & Dolby vision compatibility. It'll cost more but future proof better.

You won't get meaningful HDR for sub-£500 - plenty will support it, but you need to roughly double the budget before you've got decent enough nit count and dimming zones to actually see the effects of HDR. Which means DV support isn't worth it either. (And there's a whole argument over whether DV vs. HDR10 is appreciable too.) The whole 8-bit vs. 10-bit thing is also irrelevant at this price point, it's just not worth paying the extra for a 10-bit set unless you've got everything else to back it up.

OP, the TV looks okay. Nothing special, I can't find any reviews but HiSense have been doing a decent job recently at putting out very good budget TV's. I'd still hang on for Black Friday though and look at picking up a bargain from elsewhere. 10% isn't a massive discount although it's better than nothing.

Completely agree hence my query as to use and source and yes with Black Friday found the corner it's certainly sensible to wait regardless of whether entry or top level quality is required.

Main source is Sky Q, also have Netflix etc and use it for some light gaming. I’m currently without a tv as my old one got damaged whilst I was moving house.

Having just set-up Sky Q myself there is an option for 10-bit 4K output. There's not an awful lot of content but would suggest that in this case it's worth stepping down a size to get HDR compatibility if budget is a concern. Personally I think HDR is a better step up than HD to 4K.
