Does anybody have one of these or been looking at one as a comparison to something else? I’m looking to dip my toe into the world of OLED technology and this tv seems to get very good all-round reviews straight out of the box. I’d be moving across from a Panasonic 42” LCD which is ok – I just think that OLED units are on another level.

I’d be looking at Richer Sounds as they have a 6-year warranty on this unit in comparison to John Lewis with their 5-year warranty (both at the same price).

Am I missing a trick?

We mainly watch TV through Virgin – films on Netflix, DVD & Blu-Ray etc.

Any thoughts/experience you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Would be interested to hear also.

I think at this price range it’s between this and the LG C8. As far as I can make out from reviews the LG has the better TV OS and smart platform, can hit slightly higher brightness and supports pretty much all the HDR formats bar the scarcely used HDR10+. Also has the better remote and user interface (has pretty good voice controls, Panasonic interface looks a bit old school and is stuffed with settings to play with).

The Panasonic sounds like it’s got the better picture in terms of being more accurate/ truer to the source material. Also many commenters mention how it handles motion a lot better than the C8 (which has more noticeable judder with 24p content and it’s seems tricky to set the dejudder level to get the balance of judder/soap opera effect right). Panasonic doesn’t support Dolby vision (HDR format that seems to be gathering steam). Just HDR10/HDR10+...

but the industry isn’t settled on a format yet and at least the HDR10 format is open source and from some side by side tests, the difference doesn’t seem all that.

Having said all that, I’ve not actually had experience of them. That is my next step, to find a shop with both on display. I think the C8 seems like the most complete package on paper, and is currently 200 more. But I bet in reality, buying either is gonna get you an excellent tv.

Checkout a YouTube channel called HDTVtest. He covers all the OLED TVs in great detail.

Thanks for that. It pretty much sums up my thoughts. Anyway, I've pulled the trigger on the Panasonic and it'll arrive on Tuesday. Let me know how you get on.

Will do, contemplating the LG B8 as well as it seems like there aren’t significant differences that the layman (I.e. me) would notice over the C8, except the price. The LGs do look nicer as well which would appease the OH.

However the Panasonic has proper freesat tuner which is a bonus because it means I could get rid of the humax freesat box. Big points for reducing clutter. I think the LGs have satellite input but there is no sorta front end to it, no EPG etc. Having said that our sat feed is dead at the moment. Can’t figure out what’s happened as it worked before we left for holiday and on return, there is no signal. Dish is still there, solid, hasn’t moved. Cables seem to be fine. Perhaps transponder? Not sure how I figure this out.

I don't know a great deal tech wise, so relied on input from PH and reviews online, YouTube and the like.
I had put a deposit down earlier this year on the LG Oled B7. Spoke to the shop last week about having it delivered and setup and seems I have had a bit of a result as I am now getting the 55 inch B8 for the same money I'd agreed a deal on the B7.

To me they both seem pretty epic TV's with very, very good reviews so I'm looking forward to it arriving next week. I know the B8 I'm getting is the entry level of the range but based on all reviews it certainly seems to tick all my boxes for what I require, and for my budget. Xbox 1 X to follow next month, and audio and av some time next year.

I could be wrong here but I think both Sony and Panasonic get their panels from LG as LG were the company that invested into their own production facility for said panels, Sony and Panasonic did not, (I think.)

Also if I read the reviews right, the only real difference between the b8/c8 is the processor. The B8 has the A7 where as I think the rest of the range has the A9.

You are correct, Panasonic, Sony, Philips ... they get panels from LG Display, the difference is in their own processing electronics. And yes B7 gets the alpha 7, C8 and up alpha 9. On paper the difference seems decent, but in practice? haven't seen much to say it was worth it. I believe both can do Dolby Vision/HDR10. I suppose the design of the stand is probably the most significant difference!
