Ahh got 4 Samsung LCD tv's 2 of them about 10 years old another about 6-7 and they all work fine (except the smart bit but never mind)

Problem is the above one is just over 2 years old and has died!!! it was left on with my Son's switch onscreen for about 10 mins - came back to it to find it turning on and off (the red standby light goes on and off) and the backlight is also turning on and off as if it's is trying to find an input. I have obviously tried disconnecting everything including power etc. but nothing seems to make a difference.

Rand up Samsung how said it's out of warranty which was helpful - I little bit peeved at this bearing in mind the older screens all work fine and have had much more use....

Any suggestions ???

Have you tried a full factory Reset or are you not able to access any menus?
I’m not sure how to do it but a quick online search will help.

I'd start by eliminating anything external to the TV. I'd remove the batteries from any remote control units and disconnect all external devices which were connected the TV.

Does it power up normally ? If not, it could be something as simple as an internal ribbon cable which needs reseating, or it could be something more sinister on one of the PCBs. If it's the latter, it may mean the unit is beyond economic repair.

I wouldn't advocate poking around inside unless you were very confident with what you were doing and remained mindful that some of the capacitors may still pack a punch, even if the unit has been removed from the mains for a while.

Tried various things - including disconnecting everything - removed TV from the wall etc. Cannot get to the menus as the TV does not come on fully.

I think it is something to do with the 'computer' side of the TV if that makes sense as it appears to try booting up - Red light starts to flash and screen back light blinks on and off for a few seconds and then it goes to sleep again but tries again a little later. I left it unplugged all night but it has made no difference.

I mentioned remote control units because I had a Samsung showing similar symptoms to yours a while back.

The TV was fine until I tried to change channels when the cycling of on-off-on would begin.

Stripped, cleaned and rebuilt the remote and it's been fine since.

Sorry forgot to mention that - yes I did remove all batteries from remotes and tried holding down the power button the tv instead - nada -same behaviour.....

Other than giving it to an electronics bod (for a fee), the next option might be to remove the back of the unit and reseat all of the internal connectors.

No guarantees, but free-of-charge* options are running out.

[* - No pun intended, but take extra care if poking around inside..]

I had this happen on one of mine. You could try removing the power lead and holding down the power button for a couple of minutes (or just leave it unplugged over night). This will completely empty all the capacitors etc of power. Plug it all back in and see what happens.

I was able to limp mine along for a few months doing this before trying new boards etc. In the end it was scrap and I had to replace it.

Hmm couldn't easily remove the cover - I am pretty handy with screw driver etc. (built PCs etc and always taking things apart). But it looks very fiddly. As has been suggested it could be a cable or something - although how it has come loose is beyond me! However the behaviour suggests it is the system board or something.....

Tried the power cycle thing overnight hasn't seemed to have made an effect.

Rang Richer Sounds and they have waved the £90 callout charge to take a look and decide what the cost would be to repair so I will wait and see what happens I guess. I think all the other TV's have come from them so I guess there is some good will there (all the others I have are Samsung, are older and still working fine which is a bit of a pain.....
