Was having a wander round Curry’s yesterday and Mrs expressed how good some of the new 4K TVs were. So it accelerates my new TV plan. Win win!

I currently have a 50” Samsung Plasma.... about 14 years old but going well. My original plan was to let that die before buying a new one. But with the Mrs on side..... am in a good place.

I also am going to upgrade the sound..... currently torn between Sonos and Denon Heos. This started the check of inputs to the TV.... currently all my inputs go into my amp.

I notice most of these TVs have three HDMIs. I need four... Apple TV, Virgin Box, PS4 and Nintendo thing.

So am I missing something? This day and age with so many devices, three does not seem to cut it. I was hoping/expecting 4 or 5 hdmi inputs!

The solution has to be easy for the kids and the Mrs to operate... so would appreciate thoughts. Four hdmi TVs seem rarer!! Looking for 55” and about £750 to £800.

Quite a few Sonys have four HDMI inputs:

Just an example - other models have four as well.

This sounds remarkably like my situation, interested to see the opinions.

Any of those you recommend? It was easy when I bought a 1080p plasma!!

My LG C8 OLED has 4 HDMI - not that it's particularly relevant since it broke down after a month and, two weeks later, is with a repairer while I sit and stare at the wall...again..

This thread was running when I was looking:
https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

I ended up with a Sony KD49XF9005BU which I think is good, but I'm not particularly expert on TVs. I linked to the 55" version:

I’ve just bought a Sony 65 inch 4K tv and it’s bloody brilliant.

I can’t tell you the exact model number, it cost about £1400 and it was reduced in Curry’s.

It’s wall mounted and I bought a Sony sound bar at the same time.

I appreciate that’s not much help but the F1 doesn’t half look good that big in 4K on Sky Q yes

It was the 65"ers we were looking at over the weekend - but it is just too big in our lounge. Even to go full council and put it on the wall above the fireplace would be almost the width of the chimney breast!!

So 55 it is!

Yo don't need to get ripped off on expensive 4k capable HDMI cables if you need them, especially if you are getting it from the usual suspect. Depending on length, they are not expensive. (obviously there is a limit and linger will cost more).

The 55" will still do the job yes

I think I could have gone bigger but Mrs HoHoHo doesn't quite agree with my man-TV-maths wobble

If you’re coming from a Panasonic plasma I would find the extra cash for a 55inch OLED personally. That’s the exact jump I made (albeit 65inch). The picture on those plasmas is still great so you need a decent TV to equal that, especially as most of the stuff you watch won’t be in 4K.

Really you only need one ARC compatiple HDMI on the TV which is connected to and ARC compatible HDMI on your AV amp.

All sources connect to the amp and the amp does the video switching for you. Check that your AV amp handles 4K and upscaling, otherwise ignore the above or budget for a new amp as well.

But do you actually need 4K? Are any of your video sources 4K?

In think this is where my confusion is. I don’t want the amp/speakers but want to go down the Sonos/Heos sound bar and wireless surrounds.

And in answer to your last question.... Virgin Box and Apple TV. The Nintendo switch and PS4 is not 4K I think- but come upgrade time will be I am sure.

Apple TV 4k is great. Not quite a disk but certainly worth it for my money.

My amp does not do 4k, without saying not HDCP 2.2, I feed my TV direct until I get a new amp that will cater for my needs.

I still run a Panasonic plasma and making the jump at last, I hope it’s the right one.

But looking at loads and trying to future proof the LG55”C9 seems the daddy.

Not a LG fan and was going to go Panasonic 950b but the LG has better features and newer hmdi formats. 5hey just added Apple TV also and ofcourse it has 4K Netflix built in.

Just waiting for Black Friday see if any one will do it a bit less.

After my new LG C8 packed in after a month, I was without the TV from 13 October to it's return on 5 November, not least because a 65" TV needs a 2 man collection and delivery crew.
Not a bloody sausage from LG in the meantime or since.
Great picture though
