Apple TV 4k and Firestick 4k
Discussion
So despite a bit of Googling and attempting to find an answer I’ve drawn a blank.
My Apple TV is the older HD version, but now I’ve got a 4k tv I’d like to watch my streaming purchases in 4k.
You can download Apple TV+ on a Firestick 4k which will cost under £50 currently, Apple TV 4K is a minimum of £179.
So surely the Firestick running Apple TV+ represents far better value for money?
The clincher is, can I watch Apple TV+ in 4k on the Firestick? I can’t find an answer anywhere that confirms it.
There’s no settings for quality in the Apple TV+ app, so are Apple holding back 4k for their devices but pushing a HD service to everyone else?
Anybody know a definitive answer?

I've got both of these, so I can have a look for you.
My Firestick 4k is sadly linked to an HD set, so can't say 100%, but if I select a movie I know to be available in UHD on my Apple Tv box, the info underneath on the Firestick does say '4k', so I'd imagine that it is available.
It's a bit of a hassle for me to move it through to a UHD set to say for sure, but I can if you really want

I believe this link answers the question - https://9to5mac.com/2019/10/24/apple-tv-app-device...
Essentially it will be in 4K but no Dolby Vision or Atmos yet.

That makes sense, the firestick doesn't have Vision or Atmos support.Essentially it will be in 4K but no Dolby Vision or Atmos yet.

Well done, your powers of Google are better than mine. Virtual pint on the way Essentially it will be in 4K but no Dolby Vision or Atmos yet.

Ok, so the answer is...it 'seems' to. Sorry I cant be more accurate, but my Samsung TV in the bedroom isn't showing the 'info' banner which I would use to see what resolution HDR/sdr status is.
I will note that the Apple TV app on my 18 month old Samsung UHD tv works well, and also shows the 4k HDR info, and although the TV won't show the info status banner, the quality seems good so I'd be sure it is playing in 4k and HDR.
Also, the Apple TV interface is the same on the firestick as my Samsung TV, and seems just as smooth to use so is quite nicely done it seems

I put a post on the Apple forum, one of the replies said the app plays in 4k on any 4k devices.
