For my ‘snug’ over winter I fancy having some new units. The Marantz 6006 cd and amp UK edition come in together about £600. They both have great reviews and would probably do the job admirably.
Looking at a slightly higher price bracket (just because ... ) comes the Cyrus CD I and Cyrus One amp.
Mmmm always likes the unconventional size and of course they are British. The amp has a built in pre-amp and also blue tooth making it Uber useful.
However, doing some reading shows that Cyrus is a bit like the 996/7 older Porsche chocolate engine.
You don’t read about the perfect ownership of course but there are sufficient stories to make me think twice about buying them. (I wonder if Baz does hi-fi repairs?)
So, is there anyone to kindly highly recommend any other kit?
Max of two grand to include speaker cables is my comfort zone. There is so much out there to read up on that it’s hard to know where to start. I would be interested in hearing about what you use to play your music.
I might just go full circle and get the Marantz to save on a headache and some cash since Xmas is coming!

no bluetooth but something like this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Naim-Uniti-2-light-use-...
A huge step up in quality from the usual suspects.

Don't know where you are hearing bad things about Cyrus Ones - have sold a lot, only one was faulty and that was in the very early days of production. It's by far the most dynamic amp in it's price range.Same with CD player, The days of player problems for them are long in the past, but it's miles out of budget anyway. The Marantz's are great value, If you want another option you could try the little Rega's (Apollo/Brio).
The Uniti 2 on Ebay from the other poster looks like a good buy, but there's also someone selling a Unitiqute for £600 who may take an offer?
I'd be tempted by that
Check to see if it's a bluetooth version ( i don't think it is).you could get the Rega CD player (also half size) to go with it
Speakers you ideally listen to. but if it's a good small speaker within budget consider the Dali Oberon 5s, or if you want a stand mount the Dynaudio Emit 10s or 20s
That should be in budget for you.

Thanks for the replies guys. Red, that looks like an amazing suggestion. I will do some reading up on it tomorrow. Tony, I happened by chance to come across an unfavourable comment on the Cyrus and thought I should do some due diligence by some digging around. I found some more negative feedback from this year on a AV forum and it planted some doubts in my mind. I am buoyed up by your experience with them and will keep them on my short list.
There are a few decent looking hifi shops within an hours drive but finding the time for a visit is the tricky bit. I don’t want to hold off until next year so I might revert to a night of beer then hit the Internet shopping. Ha! Thanks again.
